Ignition Switch

I went to leave for the office this AM and in trying to start my S70, the key goes smoothly in the ignition and turns to accessory but is "locked" from trying to turn to ignition to turn the engine over.

I have checked the shift override button to make sure it isn't stuck or gummed up and of course turned and gently played to get the key to turn to no avail. Dealer says the igniton tumblers may have worn out and I need to bring it in for the wallet cleaning.

Can anyone recommend any other trouble-shooting methods before I have it towed to the dealer for repair?

Many thanks,

Well - spent some time on the phone with my local dealer trying to trouble shoot my ignition-jam problem. After the reality that the S70 had to be towed in, spent the day doing the logistics and found a reputable mechanic closer than the dealer (saved $50 in towing my car an hour away in addition to labor rates - $65hr vs. $100hr @ dealer).

Mechanic called back and said worst fears confirmed - part has to come from Sweden, estimate at $450 to $500 for parts & labor, timeline for worst-case scenario is 10 business days...estimated total counting total and car rental is approximately $800....ouch.

Overall, still love the car but these little nuggets of joy hurt.
