Smith's rap revenge on Eminem
Will Smith has got his own back on Eminem for insulting him in rap The Real Slim Shady - by recording a track called Mr Nice which mocks the hip-hop star's bitter and jealous nature.
Eminem famously penned the lyrics, "Will Smith don't got to curse in his raps to sell records/ well I do, so f**k him and f**k you too," so Smith has written a track which contradicts Eminem's claim, by using a swear word to describe the Stan star.
Smith explains: "Life has put us in a situation where we're pitted against each other. But my track tells the truth."
And now the song lyrics from the Will Smith forums:
Mr. Nice Guy lyrics
Artist - Will Smith
Album - Lost And Found
Lyrics - Mr. Nice Guy
Yo, im here to set the record STRIAGHT.
You n***** don't want it with Big Willie
Let me put em to rest Jazzy Jeff
(Breathing Heavily)
Once again it's on
Wills here to end this beef
No more Mr. Nice Guy
Eminems career is deceased
Five years and runnin
You know I had to come back
Tell this dude what's up
Its time I clap back
(Chorus) X2
It aint over, it aint over
i'm bout to set it straight
it aint over, it aint over
Big Willie bout to clean his plate
(DJ Jazzy Jeff)
Oh its like that?
Don't think the movies is takin em away from the streets
Big Willie, tell em like it is!
Fo sho, fo sho
I play these cats like PS2
They step to this and get ran through
I float like a butterfly and sting like a bee
Eminem's from Detroit, but he cant see me
I've had the game on lock since 88
And now i'm here to tell these hatin ass n******, CHECKMATE
(Chorus)X2
It aint over, it aint over
i'm bout to set it straight
it aint over, it aint over
Big Willie bout to clean his plate
I made the industry
I aint takin this lightly
I used to wear Reeboks
Now i wear Nikes!!!
Can't believe I stooped to this
Slim shady, you aint the truth
Time to get my crown back
You was in the crib, NOW IM IN THE BOOTH!
My movies make millions
Your movies are weak
My movies set standards
Your movies are WEAK!!!!
(Chorus)X3
(Headphones drop, microphones drop,Beat Stops, DJ Jazzy Jeff heckling)
Time for the freestyle Fresh Prince!
Okay, WHAT, Okay, WHAT, yeah, yo yo yo yo yo yo yo yo yo yo yo yo.....
WOO HA! i got Eminem in check.
Bout to take hime to him mom
That bitch look like Shrek!

So he's retaliating Em on something he said about 3 or 4 albums ago? :screwy: I had a lot of respect for Will Smith, but not I don't know what to think. Em probably won't say/do anything. I have never personally thought that Em was talking shit to Will, just saying shit.

Em was just retaliating at Will Smith's stab at him at that award show in his song. Smith threw the first punch.

Will Smith one an award for best album or something, and during his acceptance speech said something like "This proves that I don't have to swear in my albums to win". This was toward the beginning of the Eminem controversy.

Go to the last page of the "50 cent gets dissed by Jadakiss" thread, and i bet whatever you listen to doesnt have that much depth to the lyrics

any publicity is better than none. if it weren't for the song he made dissing eminem, we wouldn't be talking about him right now and no one would even care that he's putting another album out.

OH MY GOD, ANOTHER RAP ARTIST DISSES ANOTHER RAP ARTISTS, OMGZ0RS STOP THE PRESSS, HOLY SHIT, WHAT R WE GUNNA DO DR. DRE? OMG OMG Z0RS, THIS IS THE FIRST TIME IN RECORDED HISTORY SOMEONE HAS DISSES ANOTHER ARTISTS OMG!!1!!!11!!!!!
Artists dissing other artisits dates way back to Mozart.
Why can't they get over the whole "hey I'm going to make a million bucks buy "writing" a song that tells another rap artists to go fuck him self and he'll "write" one about me, and make money off that, and the cycle will continue", it gets pathetic after awhile. And it's kinda old by now (I'm aware of the irony, for those who can't figure it out, I'll point it out, "OMG!!1!!!!11!!!!" in my above all-captions comment).
EVERY time a rap "star" "disses" another one, it's put all over the news, the internet, why? I don't know. So people rush out and buy the albums to hear their bullshit.

hahaha prob not. Don't get me wrong, I quite like Will Smiths stuff, actually I normally love it, I tried to download the song but couldn't find anything.
Sorry if I may of offended in that post, I might be the only one that has a problem with the fact that the whole "rap vs. rap" is constantly publisized. I mean, seriously, why bother dissing other people in your music? That's what turned me off Eminem.
You never hear metal artists dissing other metal artists, we work together, we're family. There have been the occasional fued, but that's bassically it...other than the fact that two black metal bands hated each other so much that one of them killed the lead singer of the other and is now in jail for a while. But that's just aboot it.

Rap on the radio = crap
Unless it's underground/alternative radio, ie not the mainstream stuff
yep! the best stuff you don't even hear on the radio. That goes for any kind of music.
Also, you can't judge an artist by what song he has on the radio people.
I bought it but you guys should download krayzie bones new album and check out some of the things he says. Alot of real stuff when it comes to music. Unlikely riding the pop bandwagon and doing what everybody else is doing. That one song on the radio could just be the song that gets them notice by the trend or fad in music that is going on. but when you listen to the other songs, it a whole new ball game. which is why i really don't listen to the local radio stations anymore. I listen to xm. un-edited real, raw, some underground, artist and songs youv'e never heard of.

i'd also like to add, there was a special on vh1 about rap music a few days ago. About the battling, dissing and other important aspects of rap music that non listeners fail to miss.
Some of you guys should check it out if you can find it. (maybe somebody uploaded it on the internet)
You cant hate something because you only skim through it. You'd miss all the important details. Rap is not all about dissin bitches, killing, drugs or big rims. They aren't real from the heart rappers. Nothing is bad or wrong about rapping about stuff that you want or have. what is wrong about rapping is trying to portray and do stuff that is not credible and unrealistic. Will smith is a party/happy rapper. some people naturally want to be the antagonist. Some people fit the natural bad guy description.
Some of the best poems are disguised as raps. What everybody is witnessing now in rap is the ugly side of dissin. Straight bullshit. When done correctly(battle rapping), it can and will bring the most creative stuff out of you. Basicaly whoever has the best use of the vocab skills will win. What the hell do you think american idol is? All of them are battling each other. The definately not on teams. True they aren't writing the music and they arent rapping but its the same concept. I am battling you for the throne. "American Idol" Rappers use that same formula. The people/listeners/public decide who is the winner. Not the artist. Although that artist may be better.
However when that 25+25 cent (dont say the name cause it is going to start a whole new shitty topic.) guy came out on a major deal, he made it even more marketable(1.4million in 4 days) to diss people because of his success at doing that.
edit> Also for the level of creativity comes higher gains and losses when it comes to battling.(which can severly affect an artists sells in a good or bad way.) That is what battling is about. Who can diss the most creative way. Some people go overboard and start to dis-respect
cause thats all they think it is. That is where shit happens
For those who don't know or understand (if you do, i am not talking to you!) why certain artist try so hard to sell through dissin is because
-1.Many artist aren't played on the air stations so they don't get heard. And when other artist are played all day isnt because of they are that good, its just because the middle men pay them too. Where do you think radio stations get money? Its not from charity
-2. Because of that reason above, it is hard to make actual money. (alot of artist you hear on the radio have sold lots and lots of records but are not making any money off them because of contract deals. So the pressure to get noticed increases. Therefore you could have a gold/platinum album and still live at your moms house.
-3. for that reason above let say a cd cost $15.00
the money off each sale is split to like 12 different middle men. So you would only get about 1.25 per sale. IF even that. That decreases with groups. 1.25/(X group members) and also that is taxed also. Concerts/shows is where alot of artist make there money from.
Bascialy there nothing wrong with dissing and it keeps fuel going longer. WWE is a good example. They diss all the time for ENTERTAINMENT. if they don't wrestling would be the fakest/boring show ever.
On the other hand Will smith is a solid actor/artist who has lots of money, would get a better deal because he is not some new artist trying to prove himself to people. Will smith has sell power so Companies seek him to sign. they make money off him as well. Not him seeking for signs. that goes along with any other big artist.
Everyday (and always will) we get somebody who comes in here generalizing.
the reason why you don't hear other music dissin is because it is HIGHLY un-marketable.
nobody would care about that. No creativity would of words be involved. That is what rapping is about. Sure the guy can sing and that guy can play that but it doesnt compare to lyrics from mos def or somebody. Samething for hip-hop something people can relate to.
Stop whoring in comments like this Rap sucks. End of story. post whore

Why do so many people that dont listen to rap feel the need to go into rap threads and talk shit? You dont see me going in any rock/country/metal threads giving my opinion about it. Why? Because i dont like it, i dont listen to it, so i dont feel the need to give my opinion about it.
Drew prolly already cleared up the dissing for you guys... And just incase he didnt say it, i'd like to mention: Rap is a more competitive form of music than rock, if somebody says they're the best than other rappers that think they're better obviously are gunna say something about it and say nope u aint the best and i'll tell you why. And it evolves into a battle, then the FANS benefit because you see those rappers get more creative to out do each other, until you see which ones better.
But you also have to remember that after Jay-Z and Nas's beef alot of rappers saw how much publicity they got and how that translated into album sales. So now half the industry is dissing somebody, it will pass tho. This happens every once inawhile in rap, in the late 80s Everybody from the Bronx was dissing everybody from queens, in the mid 90s everybody from the west was dissing the east. Its a part of hip hop, its like a competitive sport.
*Edit*
BTW Will Smith is an idiot for writing a diss, he's just trying to get publicity. Nobody in America gives a shit about this diss because its gay.

A diss will always succeed to get attention, thats the whole point its publicity. But nobody really cares about the will smith diss, i havent heard that much about it. He's gay for trying to make a diss because thats never the type of rap he did, he's just following trends. The real disses get more attention.

Davo - It's not a new thing. I only posted it because the song is so hilariously bad, it just had to be shared.
haha, yeah? I haven't heard it yet, I tryed to download it.
Gotti, I've been listening to rap for 8 years. Real rap artists don't have to diss other rap artists, because they have better shit to sing about.

Yeah, and I agree with what you both said. It's for market. I'm just saying, it's lame. I mean, seriously, the whole "rap artist vs. rap artist" isn't a new concept, and even though they've taken the concept out of context to make money, it's a brillient marketing scheme, but it's still lame.

no its not just about that... battles are a part of hip hop culture, they always have bin. Hip Hop started with people dissing each other basically, people would rap and another person would try to do a better rap. That was hip hop. The rappers that just do it for publicity are the gay rappers. Real rappers get into beef too, theres nothing wrong with it... i just dont like how its a trend now and everyones doin it to market their new album.

sorry, someones got to stick up for the dude. Come on, he made the song "gettin jiggy with it"

Will still has skills on the mic... dont forget that late 80s early 90s, when he was Fresh Prince with DJ Jazzy Jeff. He was one of the biggest most popular rappers in the industry
If he didnt forget how to write he still prolly has more skills than all the chingys and nelly's in the industry now
This is a song from 1987 thats almost 20 years old! IMO.. he has better flow than eminem.
Just last week when I was walking down the street
I observed this lovely lady that I wanted to meet
I walked up to her I said hello
she said you're kind of cute I said yes I know
but by the way sweetheart what's your name
she said my friends like to call me exotic Elaine
I said my name is the Prince and she said why
I said well I don't know I'm just a hell of a guy
but enough about me yo let's talk about you
and all the wonderful things that you and I can do
I popped some cash and in a little bit of time
I showed some cash and the girl was mine
I took her over town I wined her and dined her
she ask me did I like her I said well kinda
all of a sudden she jumped out her seat
snatched me up by my wrist and took me out to the street
she started grabbin all over me kissing and hugging
so I shoved her away I said you better stop buggin
she got mad looked me dead in my face
threw her hands in the air and yelled out rape
I got scared when she started to yell
so I handed her my wallet and ran like hell
I was duckin through alleys right and left
but when the cops caught up they almost beat me to death
I was arrested charged with agrivated assault
(yo Clancy we got him)
but it wasn't my fault
nevertheless don't mean to bust your bubble
but girls of the world ain't nothing but trouble
so next time a girl gives you the play
just remember my rhyme and get the hell away

Dj jazzy jeff is the man. (At least his ego hasn't "swollen to the size of a small planet") which is the only thing that i dont like about Big willie.
Other then that, He is all G double O D Good.

All the same, lameness deserves to be called out otherwise we'll be left with nothing but mediocrity. Oh wait that's not working too well is it... :p
But seriously try listening to some of the classics, you'll need to open your ears and mind. You might just learn something other than what the corporate beancounters want you to.

so are you trying to say all disses in rap are lame?
I think you just dont understand hip hop... you cant compare it to John Lennon. A good rapper can prolly write stuff thats way more clever than anything John wrote. But what John wrote has more meaning to you, its a different kind of music. Its like comparing trance to country, saying a real guitar sounds better than electronic sounds. But try telling that to a raver and he'll prolly disagree

Well I'm yet to hear of a good/funny one, but then I'm not really looking so can't definitively answer either way. This Will Smith "diss" certinaly falls into that category, seems more a form of self promotion than anything. True, I don't understand hip hip - not at all! As a form of artistic expression it is very limited (IMHO of course).
I mentioned the likes of Zappa because he was cutting and hilarious with a putdown, but then his was a very rare talent!

Limited? just because it isnt some white guy singing while strumming on a guitar?
get real mate, I can appreciate the classics in music such as you've mentioned, along with modern day music, and i realise each style of music is artistic in its own ways.
Hip-hop is a very unique form of music in that it doesnt matter who you are from any background, you can get involved at some level whether it be emceeing, djing, writing up or break dancing, each has its own degree of artistic merit and skill.
Hmm sounds limited to me...NOT
You need to listen to more hip-hop to broaden your mind(and get those stereotypes out ya head), and then you can say oh yeah man good point ras kass tackles race issues&religion, gangstarr talks about society, immortal technique is ripping the govenrment a new one, talib kweli rips the industries thinking a new one, etc etc

Can't say I agree with any of the above, but opinions are unique, that is the beauty of them. But I'm open minded, what would you say is a good example of rap/hip hip, that demonstrates all the things you list above? I'm fully prepared to give it a go, just have heard nothing but dross so far. I fully acknowledge that good music is out there to be found, mass mediums like radio and TV aren't going to touch decent music with a barge pole. So if you want a challenge name me one song that I can download, that could change a disbeliever’s mind. :)

It depends what you want to hear.... if you want to hear political rhymes, you can try pretty much any immortal technique
download, immortal technique - the 4th branch
or if you wanna hear something about society, try Gangstarr - Robbin Hood Theory or gangstarr - my advice 2 you
or if you wanna hear a crazy story about a kid that grows up poor, try immortal technique - dance with the devil
Thats off the top of my head, theres better examples, but thats good enough

Hmm... Thanks again Gotti, but I'm afraid those examples only reinforce my opinion. Very narrow in musical terms and lyrically ill conceived.
I guess it comes down to culture, I've grown up expecting interesting melodies, harmony, dynamics, virtuosity, complexity, development, intelligence and a wide range of emotions from music. I don't mean that as a putdown, just that for me those raps are totally one dimensional, and thus fail to hold my attention.
To be fair you probably wouldn’t care for my stuff, much of which is an acquired taste but IMHO much deeper and rewarding.

it depends what you want to hear... i thought you wanted to hear something with more substance to the rhymes, not just cash, hoes and bling.
Theres rap with great melodies too, even from the same artists, but its not your taste.
and are you saying those songs have bad lyrics when you say ill conceived, because i guarentee no rock writers could come up with clever metafors like they use. And they could never tell a story as detailed with crazy twists like "dance with the devil." Rap is more lyrical then any other type of music, rap itself is basically poetry, thats the whole point thats why you dont need the greatest voice to be a great rapper, because thats not the most important thing, the lyrics are.
i dunno.. somebody give him a better example, cause i just named some quick political shit of the top of my head
