I made a mistake with wiring my trailer lights and demaged my 2003 Windstar. What happened was all light functions worked well before I started the engine. But when I tried to start the engine, I could only hear some sort of clicking and the flash lights was on automatically. I immediately disconnect the trailer plug and tried to start the van again. Same thing happened. I might blow some fuses, or break some electrical boards, or some electrical components, or all the above. I am looking for information on how to troubleshoot problems like that and find out exactly what went wrong. Thanks.

I suggest you try the helminc.com website. It takes a bit of poking around, but you will find the Ford shop electrical diagram book, for your model, for about $40. Look under "all media".
If you can't find it, get back to us.

12Ounce, thanks for helping me. I got a Haynes service manual that contains some information on the electrical diagrams. Do you think it is enough? I also went to helminc.com see what they will offer. I stopped at where I was asked for dealercode. I have checked all the fuses and relays in the two fuse boxes (one inside under the steering wheel, one under the hood by the battery) . They seem all good. I am thinking about using a hand held scanner to see if I can narrow down the problem sources. There is a chance that my computer board is broken so I may or may not get a correct diagonsis with the scanner. Seems to me that the starter motor is not turning. What's a recommended way to find out why it is not turning? Thanks --Shenghui

So you are in a strange city and need to find a particular address. You don't have a city street map .... but you do have a world globe.
That's my opinion of how helpful the Haynes is for electrical trouble shooting. I have a Haynes.. they are fine for some things. My elect diagram book is larger than the Haynes ... and it is focused only on the elect circuits... much detail.
When you're on the Helminc.com homepage just click on the "aftermarket" logo. Or try the link below:
http://www.helminc.com/helm/Result.asp?Style=&Mfg=FMC&Make=FCT&Model=WIND&Year=2003&Category=3&Keyword=&Module=&mscsid=DM7SRNMTR5EE9NQ47314PWRT107PCAH2
Or call (800) 782-4356 and order #FCS1225503. $55.
