I just paid $200 for a 1987 Nissan Pulsar NX XE. It has some sun damage on the door panels and the floors might have to be replaced soon. Other than that the car is in great shape.
The engine is a E16I and from what I've read so far it isn't the best engine. I am looking to upgrade everything in there, but I want to know it it is worth it or not.
What gets me is the fact when I pulled the stereo it was a stock Mitsubishi one and not a Nissan one. The guy who had the car before me tried to wire everything in himself and just left me with one heck of a job to try to fix.
Does anyone know where to buy parts for the headlights because the white plastic part that holds the shaft that hooks onto the motor for the headlights on my car broke. I want to also know if anybody thinks it is a good idea to turbocharge it with the E16I engine or to wait until it is upgraded.
If anyone could help me it would be greatly appreciated.

Well, congratulations on scoring a sweet ride!!! I don't know what to tell you about the little plastic piece, cause mine is broken too (on the passenger side) :( I've just been leaving my headlights up all the time rather than having only one side go down (the car looks like a winking moron).......but a word of advice on the turbocharge/upgrade question.
It all comes down to one thing: Do you want a turbocharged car? or do you want a turbocharged project car? With the relative abundance of Nissan turbo engines out there, the only reason to make one yourself is for the sake of doing it yourself. Blazing your own trail can be rewarding, but it can also be rough at times. Also, turbocharging a previously naturally aspirated engine can overstress many parts that in a turbo engine would be built to take it. Unless you plan on rebuilding the engine and beefing up things in the crankshaft/con-rod/piston/head/fuel/ignition department you would likely be limited to pitiful boost levels. While getting your hands on a ca18det or sr20det seems rather expensive up front, its nearly a guaranteed thing that it will be freakin awesome right out the box. And those engines are much more readily upgradable than an oft forgetten one like the E16I.
Even the naturally aspirated ca16de out of the NX SE would be a step up (if you find one in good working shape)
Anyway, That's my 2 cents......

three cents short of nickel.

Cool ... I have the 1988' Pulsar NX that originally had the 1.6 ltr too. I swapped the Motor with a fkn wicked CA18De out of my Special Edition ... I had two pulsars. Only one now. Shes wicked ...I had the whole head done ( Valves and Springs all new ) ... CV Joints / Shafts / Cold Air Intake / Custom Exhaust / New Injectors / 4 New Coils / New Alternator / NEw everything :D ( I should have just invested in a CA18DET ) :P like you mentioned ... that would have been way better, but I was new to all this and didn't know what the hell I was doing ... now I do ... ;) haha ... I spent my money, yes I shouldn't have spent that much but she's a wicked car. She flies, and there is no turbo. With turbo Nissan said it would be insane ... I have the FRont Clip of the special edition pulling the ass end of the 88' nx 1.6 ... haha. I have a friend with a Sylvia Conversion ... 240 SX no more ... lol. He has an awesome ride. He got a racing Tranny and exhaust to match. Now I just found out I can do the same to my motor ... crazy ... It will go like a bat out of hell. I recomend you get someone to do the swap if you can't :) and listen to MIKE, he's right. Sure wish I had of used this forum before spending $$$ ... oh well got a sweet Car now ;)
Good luck man ...
