98 Suburban won't start

A short time back my wife came in one night and said that the suburban wouldn't start. I got in and turned the key and it just clicked. I turned the key back and tried again and it started right up. I checked and tightened the battery cables and everything looked good. We have had no problems until today. My wife tried to start this morning and it clicked. She tried repeatedly and gets nothing but a click. Is this a solenoid issue or the starter itself?

Hi,after you have your batt checked to make sure that is not your problem.Just replace your starter it has a built in solenoid.It could be solenoid or starter, one of them is just not making good contact anymore.Thats what it sounds like to me anyway.

You don't still have the original battery from AC Delco in there do you. The original batteries are known for leaking acid from the positive battery post and causing corrosion to form between the stacked side post battery cables. Take the cables apart and clean them with screwdriver, metal pic, sandpaper, or scotchbrite pad until you see shiny copper. The same goes for the lead spacer that is sandwiched between the cables. Other than connections, you need to have your battery checked out of the vehicle. This will eliminate the possibility of corrosion blocking the flow of current. my $.02
