The stereo display/clock on my '93 T-bird has gone blank. Does anyone know what's involved in repairing it?

Does the display work at night? Does the radio itself work? If so, check to see if there is 12V at the plug on the wire to the radio that is for the instrument lights, when the light switch is off. On a 97 it's a light green wire so you will have to determine which wire it is for your year car by looking at a schematic. If there is 12V on this wire even with the light switch off it means it is shorted to the 12V. With 12V applied to this wire the display dims for night driving which could give the apperance of no display during the day.

Yes the clock is on the display, it toggles back and forth to the station freq by pushing the volume knob

Definitely nothing at night, though I've now noticed that it can be read if direct sunlight is on it at the right angle. Makes me hopeful there's just a backlight lamp out.
