Tires For A 96 Sonoma

Hey all, I have one question:
I have a 96 2WD Sonoma SLS Long Bed...4.3..blah blah...anyway, i was wondering..will p235/75r/15 tires fit on the stock rims? The standard tires are p205/75r/15..i was just wondering if i could put the bigger tires on without getting new rims or causing any damage. Please, any help would be greatly appreciated..thanx!

If you change stock tire size there will be a noticeable change in the speedometer accuracy. Also It will affect your allignment slightly. 235 is the width of the tire in mm so your tire will be 20 mm wider, the 75 is a height to width asspect ratio so it is the hight of the sidewall according to the width of the tire, the R means a radial tire, and the 15 is the size of the wheel.

Actually it's not toooooo bad.. WHile the tires will fit fine, he will only be 3.7 mph slower on his speedo... That said, I'm not sure how it's really going to affect his alignment... I mean think about it, your alignment is done at the knuckle (well, rather based on the alingnment of the knuckle) and not really the tire/rim. As long as the new tires are balanced correctly there shouldn't be a problem.

IT will affect alignment, because it will increase the scrub radius and this will cause a change in the toe which is adjusted by tie rods, scrub radius is the camber angle compared to the SAI angle, if you have a wider scrub radius than stock your tires will wear faster, but if that doesn't matter to you bigger tires will make your truck look better.

if the tires are the same height what does the width have to do with the speedo... it will take a little more power to move the tires but the speedo wont change, as far as alignment u wont even notice any difference, tires still wear evenly, however by being a wider tire the balljoints might take more of a beating, other than that not really a big problem, just make sure if u turn your tire all the way to the right or left that it doesnt rub against the inner wall

Width won't have anything to do with the speedo, diameter will... Assume you have a 2" tire that's stock... Then you go to a 31" tire, it will take more length to go through a revolution and less revolutions to go the same distance as the 27"... So the 27" tire would take 772.6 revolutions to complete a mile where as the 31" tire would take 649.7 revolutions to go that same mile. This would offset the speedometer 9.6 miles per hour (slower) because the system doesn't know what size tire your new ones are, it only knows that it's speedo calculation is based on the 27" tire. That's why it will affect the speedo, width has nothing to do with it.. Larger/smaller tires also will not affect ball joints as you're not changing the suspension geometry... Small or larger tires the geometry stays the same. It's when you do lift kits that geometry will change (suspension not body liftys) and you start wearing ball joints and cv shafts as the stock components aren't designed for those increase angles.

forget the speedo, in some states you are not allowed to go more than 2 tire sizes larger for safety reasons and if the guy doing the inspection happens to notice that you are running an oversized tire they can flunk your safety inspection. we have become a police state.

I have never ever seen that...I don't even know how they could enforce it considering that that so many trucks are built up for off road. Only time I've ever seen anything close to that is maximum height of the bumper(s)
