Please help!
My car is having major problems, and ive already spent 2,500 to try to fix it.Let me explain what its doin, I start it up and it makes a ticking noise. Thats the first problem, but it goes away when its warm.
Second, I start driving and the pedal gets heavy,it barley has any acceleration, then it chugs back and forth. Once in a blue moon it will come out of it and really go, but it doesnt last very long. It takes a while to get to 60mph. Please help

you have spent $2500 to fix it already! First off what has been replaced in the thing. Sounds like possibly there is something binding up the belt like a seized ac compressor, power steering pump or something. Is it blowing out any strange colored exhaust like white or blue smoke? Have you ever had the head gasket replaced? THat is a VERY common problem on the 95-99 3.1 and 3.4 engines in the monte carlos. How about the transmission- possible torque convertor failure- maybe it isn't locking up. Is there any antifreeze in the oil( meaning does the oil look milky)- any exterior leaks on the ebgine? Strange smells? For 2500 you can have another car. Whoever you have taken this car to obviously must not know what they are doing because they just keep guessing at it with 2500 in repairs. Give some more info so we can help pin point your problem.

Well I took the car to chevy garage today and they told me, to get rid of my car as soon as possible. They said it had to do with pistons and piston slip or something like that. They pretty much told me that the engine is warn out. I am so bummed I wish it was something simple.
Thanx for all your help

if it is the same shop that has charged you 2500.00, I think I'd get a second opinion.........

well piston slap is very common on 3.1 and 3.4 engines. How many miles are on it? Try running an engine flush through it before you get rid of it. Those engines usually run for a long time except for the head gasket problems. Run a engine flush through it before you change the oil. Change the oil and you will be amazed at what comes out. May fix a lot of your problems for basically less than $100. Definately worth a try. Change the oil with 5w30 and a new filter, follow instructions on the engine cleaner( like seafoam, or GM top end cleaner, or something you can get at a auto parts store), follow the instructions on the container, change the oil with new and that may help a lot of your problems. You will most likely have to change the plugs afterwards because they may get all fouled. Perhaps the cheapest thing to do is run some injector cleaner through it and see if it runs better. If you do this yourself it will be much cheaper than a shop. Good Luck
