engine cuts out

98 eclipse gst cuts out but the higher the gear the less gas I can give it before it cuts out. When it cuts out and I try to give it more gas it sometimes backfires. The engine light came on and I Took it to Auto Zone and they hooked it up to that little computer thing and it said that number 2 cylinder misfire. Does anybody know what that could be. If so let me know....Thanks

Plugs and wires is the most likely culprit, particularly around cylinder number 2 :) A search will bring up all kinds of info on this, but the short version is install new NGK BPRE6ES (or 7) gapped to ~.028. That should do it. If not, move on to the wires. I only trust stock and NGK. Why? Because I've seen every other common type fail on install.
