Speaker Wire Color - Which One Is Positive?
I have a 97 blazer and when I went to replace the speakers I found the OEM speakers do not have a + or - sign on them. Also, the size of the connectors is not different; i.e., one is not smaller than the other. Does anyone know what the convention is?
I was told that in the front the Light color wire is +, and in the back the Dark color wire is +. Is this true?
For example: On my passenger-front door: I have a light blue and a dark blue wire going to the speaker. Is the light blue wire +? (Note: neigher wire has a "line" indicator either!

If your talking about the prongs on the speaker...the big one is + and the small one is -

This is what my Haynes manual says:
Right Front Door - Pos is Light Green - Neg is Dark Green
Left Front Door - Pos is Tan - Neg is Gray
Right Rear - Pos Dark Blue - Neg is Light Blue
Left Rear - Pos Brown - Neg is Yellow
Nothing marked Line

FYI you don't have to have a diagram to figure out which one is positive and negative. When a 1.5v battery (AAA,AA,C,D) is connected to a speaker + to + and - to - the speaker cone will move out. When connected + to - and - to + the speaker cone will move in.

Thanks for the schematic...
For clarification, my OEM speaker connectors are the same size. However, when I look at the schematic I can see all the color coated wires so I can figure out which color is + and which color is -. One question: On the schematic, each speaker has a coil to describe ???? Is this the + side of the speaker?

Hold on now... Upon closer examination of the schematic, I see there are tweeters in this diagram. My 1997 Blazer only has 4 speakers (2F & 2R).... plus my front-right (passenger side) has a dark blue and a light blue wire. This schematic shows different colored wires vs my wiring.
Great schematic, however. Also my Blaser has the LS package and maybe this schematic is for the higher end sound system since it has separate tweeters. (or maybe I don't know where my tweeters are?)
This schematic may not be for my 1997 Blazer?
How about this approach. If I use a DC-V-meter I see that one lead holds steady at ~6V, while the other lead can not be measured. Can anyone tell me which lead is the positive lead?

Not exactly sure what your question is. Do you mean what are the coils? If so, the coils show are the voice coils of the speaker, all speakers have them.
The second question: "Is this the + side of the speaker?" If you look at the schematic where the wires start at the back of the radio, it tells you pos and neg.

The tweeters are in the dash in mine, maybe the 97s don't have them. The schematic is from haynes and is suppose to apply to 95-01 blazers.

Job Finished thanks to the tip above on which way the cone moves.... As for my wiring diagram it was different than the above schematic, but I appreciate the tip. Maybe that schematic will help another Blazer owner.

gm uses letter codes on their connectors....
A= Negative
B= Positive
or simply put A negative needs to B positive....
