Ooo..the new Benz is pretty killer...it's good looking, performs very well and it's got a manual...but it's still not beat a Porsche Boxster S in the slalom or handling

But for everyday purposes...I think the SLK350 would holds it's own...we all know the Boxster stigma and that ppl dont think it's a real Porsche...but it does it's best w/what it's got...I drove one...they are nice...but the SLK350 would be better day to day...Boxster more of a weekend car/track car...I wouldnt really want to take a SLK on the track...although if I sent it to RENNtech or Brabus...I am sure I could whip up!

Boxster S for me. Mid-engined, lighter than the SLK, and it'll absolutely shit all over the SLK in the corners :D

Reviews of the SLK say it's much, much sportier than the old model, and that it almost feels like a BMW in handling. But I'd still rather have the Boxster S. I could care less whether it's a real Porsche or not...the motor is sweet, the chassis has excellent balance (better than the 911, I've heard), and the brakes and suspension are top-notch.

Boxster S. No question about it.

I believe that both of these cars are very good buys, so really the decisive factor between these two is how much luxury you are willing to give up for performance.

The 2nd Gen. SLK 350 is by all accounts a great car. C&D said that it is, "the sweetest handling Benz yet," and its styling is much sportier then the previous generation. Yet the SLK gives up some performance in the name of keeping with the Benz luxury car tradition. The comforts of having a hard top, and a few other things cost the car almost 200lbs compared to the Boxster S. I like the interior more then the Porsche, which is should be a given since its a Benz. I like this car alot, its a huge step up from the older ones, and is one of the few Benz's I would consider buying.

The Porsche leans more towards a true sports car then the SLK. Its interior is far inferior to the SLK, and if its like the previous generation Boxster, its probably alot louder too. By far the best part about this car, without a doubt, is the handling. In the recent C&D article, they say it has, "100-percent fat-free steering and chassis." In that same comparison, the Boxster beat out the SRT6, SLK350, and the C6 Vette convert. It also ran a track time of 1:17.87 against the SLK's 1:18.90. The Boxster also pulled .97g on the skidpad, and did 0-70 in an impressive 153ft. So as a performance car, the Boxster beats out the SLK in all areas.

I honestly can't decide between the two. I kinda like the SLK because i'm not a huge fan of convertables, so the folding-hardtop feature is very attractive to me. At the same time the Boxster is, well, a Porsche. It handles better then everything around it except the Elise. So I might have more fun in the Boxster. Its a tough call, and I don't want to make it.

What about between an 05 Boxster(not S) and 05 SLK? Everyone would take the SLK over the boxster rite?

No I am not a benz fan. I would take the porsche anyday if given the choice. There would have to be a damn big performance gap for me to choose otherwise.

If it's an SLK55, I'd have to take the Benz, I sampled one and absolutely loved it. The chassis and (especially) the steering is a huge improvement over the last one and the V8 is a great laugh in the relatively tiny SLK.

Though any other SLK and I'll definitely have the Boxster or Bosxter S and as a track day car, I'll also have the Boxster S over even the SLK55, because the Boxster chassis still cannot be rivalled by any of it's Roadster comptetition.

Perhaps the Boxster S, but Sports Car International (July 2005) picked an SLK55 AMG over a new Boxster S.

The Boxster S didn't quite feel right and a visit to the dealer confirmed it. The "alignment was out of whack and the brake system needed attention. With that sorted, I revisited the test route and found the immediacy, precision and magic were back. However, the servicing didn't improve the car's ability to soak up mid-corner bumps. The combination of standard suspension and 19-inch wheels remains a drawback in this regard; stick with the 18s, or order PASM with the 19s."
