Forester Block Crack

I have a 98 Forester with a possible crack in the cooling jacket of the block. It keeps pushing the coolant out of the overflow bottle. I have found a replacement engine but it's a 91-96 and the owener says the wiring is different. My question is, are the blocks the same? Thanks.
