need a convertable how to

Hello all, this is my first post. I havent found a how to on making convertables. Removing the top is pretty self explanitory, but I am wondering if anyone has any ideas for the down top that looks realistic. I am going to try this on my next project which is a '70 Chevelle SS. There are several kits for this car, but none are convertables. Thanks!

You might try looking at other convertible kits and comparing the boots to the car you are doing and you may get lucky.
Otherwise, styrene and putty are the materials I would to use to scratchbuild one...
You will probably have to narrow the back seat and make new rear interior quarter panels too... - Mark

Your name isn't Jason Thomas, is it? I have been trying to figure a way of doing this same conversion, I have found no resin conversions, or transkits. best bet is to find a diecast 1/18 scale, if you don't want to spend the time of doing a build up. AMT had a dealer promo of a 72 convertable, but the lowest I have seen the prices of these is around $70, and I don't wanna hack up a collector's piece like that.

How about using an umbrella clothing.

Well I havent ever messed with putty besides fixing a few mistakes. I havent done very much custom work as far as changing the base frame of the models. I would like to try some opening doors but I dont understand how to make the door jams look good and keep the model from losing stability or coming apart all together. At any rate, the Chevelle is on hold for now. Im into Revell's '99 Silverado now. Its just like the '02 that I drive so it should be fun. I wish I could figure out how to make all 4 doors open (or even 2 for that matter) but it wouldnt stay together if I did. Thanks for the help everyone.

if your trying to figure out how to open the doorson the silverado its not that hard. just cut them out. there aint but 3 on my kit tho. only the passenger side has a back door. im going to open it suicide. the only problem is the thin strip under the doors. they are to thin so i cut them off and am going to use styrene to redo that part later. i hope this helps and its easier to cut both passenger doors out as one piece then separate those into 2 pieces. by the way i havent figured out the door jam to separate those 2 doors but it shouldnt be too hard. the door panals also look like they wont be to hard to cut and attach to the door. hope this helps. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v284/southstylestang/silverado1.bmp

as far as the vert conversion. the only one i have pulled off was a foxbody mustang. turned out good for my 1st model and 1st big conversion. but it still dont really look right. but like the others said styrene and putty, then use some kind of cloth to cover it.

You are right, there are 3 doors. Since the one I own is 4 I took the liberty of carving out the fourth door. Im a little nervous about carving it up and trying for opening doors though. Keep me posted on how your project is going.

found this on ebay, its for a 69 Plymouth but should give you some idea of what you need to fabricate.

Thanks guys. I think I may get brave and try to have four opening doors on my chevy. cant wait to turn my Chevelle into a convertable either.
