Purchase Consideration

I'm considering a 1989 GMC C3500, 454, w/ duel rear wheels and 93K miles. The truck is in great shape both interior and exterior plus there are new tires. My understanding is the one thing wrong with the truck is it has a leaky A/C intake valve. I was told that it will take freon and the A/C will run find for a couple of months then will need freon again.

My questions is will it cost much to fix the leaky A/C system? Is there a ball park figure for that?

With the cost of Freon, it might make sense to convert to R134a. A different compressor (for R134a), new accumulator and orifice tube will be required. Of course, you will need to have the system flushed.

When the compressor went out on my Impala SS, parts alone was $425 from gmpartsdirect.com.

ok...so it sounds like it could be $1000 or more to have a shop do it. Thanks for the input...
