Continuous AWD question

I have a question concerning the manual transmission with Subaru's Continuous AWD System. Specifically, what happens during braking with the ABS system? Most compact SUVs disable their AWD systems during braking, due to the interactions between AWD and ABS. It isn't disabled on more expensive vehicles (key word being expensive), but doing so on a compact SUV is not cost effective.
If you're driving on ice, and you wish to downshift to both maintain control and reduce speed prior to braking, what happens when you touch the brake? Does the AWD system remain at 50/50 after releasing
the brake? Both Honda's CR-V and Ford's Escape revert to FWD mode.
I thank you in advance for your reply.
