2000 Rodeo Transmission Noise

I have a 2000 Rodeo 3.2 auto trans 64k miles and have a weird metallic vibrating noise coming from the transmission when driving around 3300 rpm.

I have checked underneath the vehicle and removed the heatshield and couldn't find anything wrong.

Any help would be appreciated

What heat shield? There's a bunch of'em. Are you the original owner?

same thing on my 2000 rodeo
im at around 38k i believe and have had the metallic noise for a few thousand of miles. the dealership didnt find anything wrong with it (duhr!)

so until i can pinpoint the problem and tell them exactly what doesnt work I dont think ill be able to get it fixed under warranty. sad ppl

any recommendations? ive posted here about this before and someone said heat shield might be loose. i thought this was the problem until i went under the car and tightened up and big metallic thing under the car in the front (i assumed this is the heat shield).

noise didnt go away

p.s. for about a month the noise went completely away! it came back shortly after my oil change. maybe they loosen something?

I drove a bit today and decided to add a bit to the discussion.

My noise has really escalated and it comes up even when I barely hit gas (say in neighborhood). I dont think its transmission related but if so I'm still under warrantly for that I believe (under 50k and 2nd owner). Seems like something is really loose and from the sound of it its somewhere on the right.

Any suggestions are welcome. Don't think I can afford going to the dealership with it anytime soon. Have no time nor money (2nd car is in the shop right now).

the driveshaft loop at the rear of the tranny is most likely going to be the culprit I have seen many of them crack at the welds and make some serious noise if it does break off then it really makes noise as it will be hanging up on the driveshaft
just tug on it see if it breaks if so get someone to weld it up

Did anyone ever find the solution to this? My 2001 just started doing this also. Right around 3300 rpm's, a metallic vibration noise for a second or two is present. It sounds like something is very wrong (no lubricant somewhere) or that a loose part is tuned to that frequency at 3300 rpms and resonates. I'm having a hard time locating because it is barely audible while parked and revving the engine.

check your muffler too.

I have a similar noise in my 99 Rodeo. I thought it was transmission noise too until I found what it is. There is a small weight attached to a bracket near the passenger side frame rail right about at the B-pillar. It is approximately the same shape and size as a hockey puck and I believe it may actually be hanging from the exhaust pipe, though I'm not certain because I haven't had the time to get under there and fix it. You'll know when you find it because it appears to serve no useful purpose, it pretty much just hangs there. Well on mine the bracket is rusted and broken on one side of the bracket and it vibrates around 2100 RPM's. I know yours vibrates at higher RPM's, but it just may have broken differently such that it has a different resonant frequency, since resonant frequency varies with the mass and length of a vibrating object. Best of luck finding it.
