Vehicle in Service Date- Need info on this

We bought a 2002 Envoy at the end of November. I looked at the manufacturing date on the inside of the drivers door and it say's 02/01. So I would assume that this vehicle was made in Feb. of 2001. The paper work that we got with the vehicle say's the In Service Date is 3/21/01. So is it safe to say that the 2002 Envoy actually came out in 2001 as a 2002 model? I know car companies will do this at times but have never seen a model come out this early(Feb.)as a new year model. I always thought they came out at least 6 months into the year. Does this have something to do with the fact that the 2002 Envoy was a complete new design? Thanks for the information! John

you are right, as a former general motors assembly line repairman we do start production usually in july or august. but some vehicles where built as 64 1/2 mustang is an example you should have heard about.

oh ya bye the way never buy anything built on a monday, friday, or during a labor dispute! also it is not a good idea to buy the first run of a new model, the first vehicles made they have the most problems but at least you waited to buy it when it was used so most of the big problems should have been fixed buy the time you got it,(hopefully).
