I have a 85 bronco II with a bad engine 2.8 carbed, I have a donor truck a 86 ranger 2.9 fuel injected. I know that physically it will set right in and bolt up to tranny. My question is how and what to change for electrical systems and fuel systems. I can use the fuel pumps and lines and wiring from the truck I think But I dont know anything about the other wiring for efi. Or wood it be easier to just use the block and put my intake and carb on it, I would really like to have the additional power of the 2,9 and fuel injection Please help Thanks, captdon.

The easiest way to keep the EFI would be to take the PCM as well. (The P.ower C.ontrol M.odule) is the brain-box- you shouldn't have too much problem, other than getting them out! (Look for the big 60-pin connector in your engine bay, driver's side-it bolts on with a small nut, but I'm not sure exactly how they come out!)
The main difference here would be the Transfer Case-if yours is Electric (from the Ranger, even) you should take it. If they are both manuals, you shouldn't have too much trouble with them.

Thanks for the info, the ranger is a two wheel drive and the bronco is a auto trans but manual transfer case. Any other info? thanks Captdon

Well, you'll probably luck out, and have both Trannies in the Brain-Box. (The Box Identifies the components that are attached to it-so it can make them run properly.) Given that the two vehicles are separated by only 1 year, and are both Ford Trucks, you may be in luck. (However, if you were trying to fit that 3.8L Lincoln engine in--you see the difficulty.)
I may be wrong, and perhaps these two years are different-there's always that chance. I would doubt that, since the Ranger obviously had a 4x4 option, and it was probably very close to what is in your BII.

Truck, thanks again for the info I think I'm going to start the swap next week, it will take me a while in my spare time but I will make many notes and take many pictures and maybe be able to write the book on this swap and help others that want to try it, thanks again captdon
