I am in the midst of trying to resolve a door ajar problem with the rear hatch of my ’98 Windstar. I saw this discussion on Cartrackers:

I have the rear panel off. My big problem is figuring out where the sensors are. I presume there is one in catch on each side. If I unplug the connectors to each one, the door ajar light goes out. The Cartrackers discussion mentions:
I disconnected the sensor, took the sensors out (couple of bolts), and sprayed contact cleaner into the sensor to clean off the ball (you'll know it is clean when you shake the sensor and can hear the ball rolling freely).
Do I have to remove the latch? There are three star bolts on each latch. Do I remove them so that I can get to the sensors? It does not seem too easy other wise.
Am I just looking in the wrong place?
Thanks,
Jeff
