Could you posibly prevent head gasket failer by puting in a cold thermistate in maby 165 deg and running bar leak with some clean coolent with distiiled water.
-My logic is less heat, less where on seals in the manifold and tranny,
-clean coolent is less corrosive then old coollent
-distilled water is less corrosive then some not all tap water
-and then bar leak or something else to plug those seals a little (suggestions welcome)?
I just baught a windstar of a friend for 500 296000 on it sounds good , no rust. I want it to last there has got to be a way

-And changing the thermistat one or more a year.
-Monitor oil consumption
-The APA recommends synthetic oil to prolong the life of the valve seals if the engine is not burning oil excessively.
-Check the 3.8L engine for low coolant, defective cylinder heads and head gaskets, and timing-cover leaks.
-check the antifreeze level at each maintenance and perform cooling system maintenance, including replacing the thermostat, every two
With trannys (i know there not the best)
In order to extend the life of your transmission, experts recommend the following: (1) Have engine computer read annually for trouble codes using a diagnostic scanner available at dealerships and transmission specialists. (2) Be sure that the front tires are both the same model and show even wear. (3) If the transmission fluid is clean and the mileage below 50,000 km, replace with synthetic fluid and change the filter. If your transmission breaks down completely,
-Do not have tranny flushed! (BAD)
-have it changed at regular intervals - good tranny fluid
-and a tranny cooler for the city drivers
You have to do these things your self in order to lessen the expenses of
the 3.8. You can never trust a general maintenance shop like--

If your engine light comes on please stop driving pick up a handy obd2
scanner from ebay and read the codes- do not drive untill diagnose or suffer the pain!
