My wife has a 99 Windstar with 80K on it. Just replaced the rack and pinnion two months ago. Now the driver side window does not go up or down, the Check engine light went on and there is a knocking sound coming from the heater/ac(heat only works sporadically--have to rig the blend for any heat to work)...Am I wasting my money trying to fix any of these? Please help.

I haven't had the window problem, but have had everything you've mentioned and much more. All have been fixed, mostly by me with the help from info gathered on forums such as this. Things settled down at approx 95k miles. Now at 150 kmiles, I'm a fairly happy camper.
If you are at the mercy of others to fix your car for pay... you may want to get rid of it.
Otherwise:
I would suggest getting the actual alpha-numeric codes.
I would suggest getting elect diagrams and shop manual from helminc.com. ... if you intend to keep the vehicle.
The blend door actuator is replaceable. The blend door is repairable.... you'll need instructions and a full day( if you are slow like me) to repair it.

FDMINER: What caused you to replace the rack & pinion?
12Ounce is right. If you are fortunate, the blend door actuator is an easy fix for about a $50 part. If the blend door itself is broken then the repair is time consuming. If you have the TSB 03-16-1 problem involving codes 171/174, I got the dealer to help me and paid just a deductible since I was on extended warranty due to transmission failure at 38,000.
Check back and let us know how things are going. United we stand; divided we become very poor as WS owners.
