A/C Clutch Clunking??

OK....here's the newest problem of the week.
With the vent switch in any position and as I'm driving slow (<5mph), I can hear and feel the a/c clutch engage. I know the engaging is normal but the noise is now unusual in that it clunks when it engages.
My thoughts are:
1. The clutch is going, or.....
2. The belt tensioner is going
Anyone else have this problem yet?
Thanks.....John

My '96 engages the AC in all positions except vent....and OFF (as in heat, heat /def, and def). It does make a clunk.....but I am guessing that yours is clunking louder than normal. You could look at the belt for wear or tension.
