Curious - if you liked the Volvo XC90 and wanted more power why didn't you opt for the new V8 version? With a 6.9 0-60 time it seems very comparable to the X5 4.4 or Cayenne S and from what I've read it handles better than the other two XC90 variants which aren't that bad in the first place.

Your right.
Well, i really do think that the x5 with facelift its a bit more nice to lay your eye's on, thats one of the reasons.
The BMW got some nice extra stuff like ipod enable, audio and video input in the backseat, panorama glas roof, double axel self leveling etc.
Those are the little things that you really love as an owner...
I still do think that the comfort in xc90 in normal driving is better /well i guess let me comeback).
The two extra seats its in the volvo is great.
Maybe i go back to Volvo after two years with the X5, but i will for sure give the BMW a chance then i will know who's best :-)
I was one of the first owners in Sweden that got the xc90 then it was fun but now its a really comon car here, the x5 4,4 is really mutch more rarre (thats also a reason) :-)
Should i tell you this... ok, my brother did get his xc90 at the same time as me... so we got experience of two XC90...
Up on today we had change stuff in our cars for about 15.000 usd/car!
Ofcourse Volvo have replace them under warranty, but it has been no nice to to visit them that often (we have job to do)...
Maybe its because they was the first on the market...
Anything more you wanna know about the Volvo, let me know.
But right now i waiting and waiting,,,til the end of march :-)
Take care
Daniel

Good luck with the X5. I've driven some and they drive VERY nicely. Excepting the XC90 V8, the X5 V8 versions are of course more powerful than the XC90 and more athletic feeling overall with more steering feedback (the XC90 with the ZF steering setup is just as precise but it doesn't give you a lot of feedback.) Aside from the lack of space inside (we have a XC90 T6 7-seater with all the toys including navigation) the only thing I didn't like about the X5 is that it felt too truck like in the corners - lot's of body lean compared to the XC90. Otherwise when it comes to driving experience the X5 is better (again with a possible exception for the XC90 V8.)
For what it's worth, I keep going out to buy BMWs and keep coming back with Volvos for some reason (my daily driver is a S60R.) I've done this several times in the past 10 years and have ended up with a 850 Turbo, followed by a S70 T5, followed by S80 T6, followed by V70 T5, and now the XC90 T6 and S60R. Volvo has become a bad habit for me...I am determined that my next car is going to be a BMW M or Benz AMG though.

Thanks for the info.
I hope the "truck feeling" will be gone with sport suspension lowering.
The Volvo is as you say is great in the corners, never had felt any suv feeling with it.
But here in Sweden i feel that its more "attitude" with a black BMW X5 4,4 black windows and all the toys :-)
And "attitude" is a BIG thing when put 110 000 usd on a car :-)...
And again its a gamble...
One more thing, cause we bought our xc90 that early we got really good price. Now when we sell them, we only lost 6000 usd after two years!
So no doubt about it the Volvo is great.
Daniel.

Actually the XC90 has the HIGHEST residual value of ALL SUVs here in the U.S. and tied with the Mini Cooper for highest residual values of ALL vehicles (and this is all before the V8 version hits the streets.)
Thanks for the info.

Maybe we will change that...
Im working in TV company here in Sweden and we have done a long testdrive (two years) with the two XC90.
We have filmed them in all type of situations.
Now we are done and will publish the program.
A little hint, we are very satisfied with the comfort and the fourwheel drive on every surface.
But we will also show all the problems we had (and its a lot) and remember there was not just bad luck, cause to be sure we did get two cars, and they both have had exact the same prob.
And it will also tell how bad the volvo dealer treat there customers at local level.
We will do the same test with the x5 but we did wait til the xdrive and the new engine.

Nah, I doubt it will change at all. New model Volvos (just like BMW, Mercedes, and Audi) always have teething problems. Also, here in the U.S. the Volvo dealership network is hit or miss as well. There's quite a few very good dealers but even more mediocre ones in my experience.
Given that Volvo has a very low customer loyalty rate (meaning most of their sales are from new customers) I don't see any negative reviews hurting them that much.
All car models experience some sort of problems in my experience. The difference in the ownership experience is how the manufacturer/dealer steps up to the plate to make the customer happy. If Volvo would step up to the plate and do things like subsidize a national loaner car program as an example they could boost their loyalty percentage and really boost their sales (they are growing even now which is a somewhat positive sign for them but they could do so much more.)
Maybe we will change that...
