Givin a $50,000 spending cap, what do you think would be the better ride-04 WRX STI or 05 C6 corvette On the track how close do you think times would be? What type of mods would you do to get the STI up to C6 speed. Would you use up all your dough making the STI as fast, then it not be able to handle?

The STi has alot of money to play w/...so I think it could be as good if not better...than a stock C6

Ok so if I'm getting this right we have near 20k to spend on the Sti, and about 5k for the Vette. :screwy:
Have you ever heard of the Honda Civic supercar? With enough money, anything can be done.

are you serious?
you can put less than $3,000 into the sti and have it at C6 speed
its only 13.3 to the corvettes 12.7
all it takes is a turbo upgrade and some fuel mods and your running low 12's to high 11's
$50,000 lol thats funny

on the Car and Driver super car wars. the lancer EVO 8 ranked #2. it cost only 58K to build including the car, and it runs 0-60 in 3.5 seconds, and the 1/4 mile in 11.6@ 120mph, it was faster then a super charged Caddy CTS-V super charged by Lingenfelter with 700hp, which cost 120K to build, it also was faster then the twin turbo R32 Golf GTI which cost 120K to build.
the test consist of straightline aceleration, then do a road course, then go to 150mph, then stop to 0 mph then go around the oval track. the EVO 8 only lost by .2 seconds from 1st place which is another super charged Caddy CTS-V making around 700hp.
if a EVO 8 could put that much hurt on these 700hp beast with only 460hp and costing only 58K when other cars cost over 100K to build.
a 50K STi would rape a stock C6 vette. and could run with the 500hp C6 Z06, if not out run it on the same test.

There are a couple of things that are wrong with the info on the Lingenfelter CTS-V. The LPE CTS-V has 510hp not 700hp, and it cost 93K to build. It finished 3rd in the test.
The STi even with 30k in mods won't beat the C6 Z06 at the track, because the STi still won't have the weight balance the Corvette does. Remember the new Z06 is slated to have an aluminum frame, 6 piston calipers in the front, 4 piston in the rear, cross drilled rotors possibly Brembos, and a 427 producing 500hp and 500lb-ft of torque while weighing in at less than 3000lbs.

that is true to a point. a new Z06 would run with a lambo murcielago. however its also proven that a 400hp EVO FQ400 can run with a lambo. and with 60K you can do more handling mods, and more power then the EVO FQ400. weight balance very important for a RWD, however the AWD more then makes up some of the weight distribution disadvantages of the STi. but your also forgeting the fact is that hte EVO cost only 58K to build and it was only .2 tenths slower then first place which did have 700hp and did cost 120K to build which did have a near 50/50 weight distribution. if the standard C6 can beat the CTS-V then i will raise the BS flag. now for a Z06 C6, there is no official data on it so its hard to tell. also your acting like 6 piston calipers cost a fortune. you can get a set of 8 piston brembo for 5K. so fine the C6 Z06 have a 6 pot. then with the 30K saved for the STi buy some 8 pot to outdo your 6 pot. the STi's active center diff also is computer controlled to transfer tq to stop truer and straighter. you can't do that with a RWD, you'll only have a electronic brake force distribution system, while the STi has that along with its active center differential to help.
where the STi lacks in fundamental chassis design, it more then makes up for with turbos, large brakes, proper downforce, and electronically controlled AWD.

Check out my avatar. Now which one do you think this one is? :pimp: . If you look above the 06 you will notice (well probably not, but its there) 500hp etched in. What a beast (also underrated from what I've heard: One has already dynoed 512). Cannot wait to see it sized up against the competition. 5.7lbs/hp should weight it in right around 2850, but we will have to wait and see.

Actually the Evo in that comparison would have gotten a first place easily, as it's fastest times were not all in the same lap therefore fucking it over basically. Damn car mags, always have to find away to look biased. Although I really liked that issue, (Viper won didn't it??) I have to say I thought most of it was pretty shitty...
While the modded Sti would prob smoke the C6 I'd still take the Vette. Rear wheel drive and that much power is a lot more fun to me. Can't do smoke burnouts and donuts with all wheel drive. I'm sure with the money the suspension in the Sti would outperform the C6's even with the Z51 option and acceleration might be scary with just 10 grand in the Suby. If I had to take the Sti I'd prob throw 10G into the suspension/tires and 10G into the engine if thats possible, then most likely brakes too, I can't imagine putting all that money into the engine, replace turbo and intercooler, full exhaust and diff intake maybe, I guess i'm not aware of all the mods for this car but maybe go internally. I know this isn't part of the subject but give me 20 grand to throw on the Vette, now guess who's smokin??

of course the vette is going to be faster if you put 20K into it, and the STi has yet to proven itself yet at the drag strips. however the EVO with like 10K under the hood is a 10-9 second street car with full interior. can't argue with that, its also alot more safer to drive much much much faster on bumper highway surfaces taking corners. it just has that much grip. the Vette's chassis will most likely get upsetted by hugh expansion joints while cornering at over 140mph.
my friend's stock evo 8 took out a 400+ hp supra TT on the highway beasue it just couldn't keep up in the corners, the roads were too bumpy. same with the 350Z, top end wise they were suppose to be the same, but because of hte AWD, the Z was left behind so far, you almost couldn't see his headlights anymore.
for a street car, AWD owns. on a ribbon smooth track, a RWD is equal, if not more effective. i also happen to find drivng a AWD to be extremely fun becaseu its almost ludicris to see how fast you can take a corner. the average rule of thumb we developed is that for the corners with speed limit, you can usually go 2X then + another 15mph which is alot. and it always pulls is off without even a hint of tire squeel.

Yeah if it was Evo Vs. C6 i'd prob choose the Evo, but it's comparing it to a Subaru right?? I guess sidestepping the clutch at redline with AWD is probably pretty neck snapping in these cars and as far as grip for a corner it all depends on your tires, especially with the advanced systems out there such as the one in the new Acura RL.

The C6 is a better car, no matter how much you put into a Subaru, its still only a Subaru. The reason Subaru doesn't build the car to specs that you all wish they would, is cause it would not last, the cars engine could not hold for the duration of the life of the car. If you have ever noticed that in all of the rallys, right after a race they are hoping underneath them and pretty much rebuilding the car. The Subaru's interior is cheap and has no options what so ever. It's loud to the point that at high speeds it's drowning out the radio. FYI a 1/4 mile time is not a true comparison for an overall car. If that's what your interested in, buy an old beater and buy the biggest motor you can get your hands on and you will blow the doors off of anyone.
Try this on for size....pull up anywhere in your subaru and I mean anywhere....low end of the age spectrum to the older guys and you will not get a second glance. Now do that in a Vette and you will always have a crowd.

I think you're being too hard on the STi. Yes, the rally car motors don't last very long at all, but they are making WELL upwards of 500 ft-lb of torque and being driven as hard as possible over extremely bumpy surfaces. I don't know a motor on earth that would last very long under those conditions. Subarus are very well known for their reliability, and the STi should be able to hold 500 horsepower no sweat. Also, in most cases, an STi will get more attention than a Corvette, because they are a much rarer sight. Anyone who dismisses the STi as a ricer car with nothing more than a flashy bodykit and loud exhuast is totally ignorant of the World Rally Championship and the heritage of the cars in it. To take the hood scoop and rear spoiler off the STi would not only be a noticeable detriment to its performance, it would be insulting to the car's heritage. It's unfortunate that people feel the need to put those parts on 100 hp, FWD Honda Civics, but that doesn't change their usefulness when applied in the correct manner. Finally, the STi's interior may be stark, but I guarantee you that it is at least as good as the C6's, and probably more tightly put together.
And in case you're wondering, I give the C6 the nod in this comparison. I've always liked the STi, but I've always liked the Corvette as well, and it's simply the better car. I just think that you're not giving Subaru nearly enough credit where credit is due.
