1995 Acceleration problem

Son heard a whistle from engine. Found one tube to DPFE worn and hot air melting wire protector on harness. Replaced both tubes and they immediately blew off. Removed and checked PCV valve, EGR valve and tube, replaced DPFE, while in there installed new ignition wires and new plugs. Checked vacuum lines. Engine starts and idles great, when driving, has poor acceleration. Can’t get it over 53 MPH if there’s any up hill grade. Cruises at 40 to 50 with out anything unusual. Does seem to have high RPM before shifting. No check engine light. Re-checked wire sequence, checks OK. Any suggestions?

Possible plugged cat converter. You might see if you can either borrow or buy an exhaust back pressure gauge. Or take your van and have the exhaust flow tested. Just some ideas. I've seen a plugged cat actually melt the DPFE before on a Taurus.

Thanks for your suggestion. It was the converter. The van is on it's 3rd engine due to head gasket problems, luckily they were covered by warrenty. The carbon filters were loose and blocked the air flow. I ordered a converter online and had it delivered next day. It's running like new.
