95 tranny disengaging after stop

My 95's transmission disengages after a stop and jumps back into gear after pushing on the gas for a few seconds. It started out doing it occassionally but now is accurring at most stops. At all other times, the gears work fine.

The van does have 150k on it. I'm hoping someone may have a solution that won't include a new tranny. Thanks for the help!

Check your fluid levels in the tranny... fill 'er up to the line and see if that helps.

Don't forget that you have to check the fluid with the engine warmed up and idling in "Park" on a level surface.

Possibly a cracked forward clutch piston. They are made out of aluminum and Ford had some problems with the piston exhibiting a hairline crack. The crack would allow fluid to escape thus letting the forward clutch bleed off. When you rev up the engine you are building more pressure and pushing more fluid to the piston until it reaches a point where it will apply the piston. This condition usually is prominent when the trans is warmed up which allows the aluminum to expand and thus creating an opening where the hairline crack is. Seen and fixed alot of these too in the dealership. Good luck and hope this helps.
