I own a 92 grand marquis GS and was interested in putting in a CD deck. but I know before you go out and buy one you need to make sure the speakers can handle the power of the deck. I dont want to buy all new speakers, I just want to keep the stock speakers in place. if anyone knows any details about a 92 stock system and its wattage, etc., please let me know. Thanks.

Don't know offhand, but you may want to take a look at the stereo you've got in the dash, it should have some indication of what it's putting out.

Many stock auto radios / cassette units have output in 8 to 10 watt range.

This usually provides reasonable SPL (sound pressure level) in car interior (unless you want to drive around annoying people).

You are more apt to blow speakers with overdriving a low power amplifier by turning up volume so amp runs into clipping distortion.

I would not worry about using higher power replacement CD Player / radio unit with stock speakers.

You don't need to worry about the stock wattage of the speakers. I have been hooking up car stereos for over 10 years now. If you install an aftermarket CD player your factory speakers will handle the increased power just fine. In fact they will sound a lot better because the aftermarket stereo supplies a lot cleaner power than the factory radio. The only thing you might have to look out for is that if your car had the premium sound system, you might have to bypass the factory amplifier. Don't worry though, they make replacement harnesses that will do that with no cutting or splicing. The amp is usually located behind the glove box or under the rear deck. Good luck, and I hope your stereo sounds great.

Why not share your "genius" online. However, based on other posts you have, info will be virtually useless or misguided.

For others - buzzing is usually caused by electrical noise on 12vdc supply lines. Often this is from fuel pump. Install a .1uf 25V capacitor across 12V supply line wires, as close as possible to stereo/CD player/amplifier unit. The capacitor, (if not electrolytic type), will not be polarity sensitive.

in my 92 the amp was located in the trunk directly behind the spare tire which made it very easy to by pass it with a special harness that i orderd through crutch field id go there for ne thing that has to do with car audio

Ya im having problems with the Premium sound in my car, it cuts off the sound to my cd player, when i go to loud, or play it for too long. I directly wired the front speakers to the player, but the back are still wired to the amp.
