Studio27 Experience

Hi folks,

Just wondering if anyone out there has built any Studio27 Formula 1 kits.

I'd like to know what you thought of the quality (given the price), and if there were any glaringly obvious drawbacks to these kits?

I'm considering buying one of their kits, but at the price they charge I figure I should do a bunch of searching and research before I take the plunge.

I'd just like to ad that I've heard and read basically all good news about the quality of these kits. I suppose I'd just like to know if anyone has found any problems with them, or if there's a bunch of lurkers out there who aren't speaking up...

Well...right now I'm in the middle of buidling a Studio 27 Ferrari F2002, and I've got a whole bunch sitting in the closet waiting to be built.

In my opinion, S27 kits are great, but only for the reason that they offer F-1 subjects that you really can't get anywhere else in 1/20th scale. On the face of it though, you would think that they would be a waste of money. They involve a lot of clean up, especially the white metal parts. Not everything fits correctly, and you really have to sand a lot. Think of it as a 1/20th resin version of a Revell F-1 kit.

To break it down.

Pros: Subject matter. Scale. The best decals in modelling

Cons: Price, a lot of cleanup. Rsin and metal dust everywhere from all the sanding.

But God help me...I keep plunking more money down for them.

Well my suggestion would be to ask with these guys as they are always building them. F1M (http://www.f1m.com/)

A common complaint I hear often is the inaccuracy of the decals (size and color), but that totally depends on the subject, some are good, some aren't. Also, IMO, the resin body should be smoother, but that can be improved easily by some sanding and polishing, a standard body-prep procedure for any resin kit.

I have a few F1 and GT car kits, and I think the S27 kits are fare for the price. The overall quality is some of the best compared with other resin kit manufacturers. The machined aluminum rims are big plus, if your desired kit comes with them.
