94 Camry Overheat Problem

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone have any advice for me.

While driving to school I noticed that my Camry was overheating. I stopped and add some Coolant and a some oil, but on the way home the camry was still overheating. I decided to turn on the heat and found that I was going getting cold air and the temperture won't go down. The "Check Engine" light then came on. When i got home and opened the hood and found that oil all over the parts under and besides the engine. When i put coolant in through the radiator cap i found that coolant was leaking out to the ground.

I have no ideas what may have gone wrong, but some people have said that the Head Casket may be blown.

Things to help:
1. The coolant resevoir was initially filled first.
2. The cap for the hole to fill the oil is tightly closed

Replace thermostat.......... should fix you over heating problem.

also check the radiator itself for cracks and all coolant lines for leaks.

If you are leaking oil all over the side and bottom of your engine, then you have bigger problems than just a leaking coolant system.

If water started pouring out on the ground when you filled it with water/coolant it sounds as if there was no coolant in it at all.. and you were running it like this for more than a mile or two.. if this is the case then you are looking at more than a head gasket.. more like a brand new engine.. block and heads will be so warped from the heat that they may not be usable.

Next time, as a general rule, don't continue to drive a car if the engine is overheating. It is dangerous to keep driving an overheating car until it quits running.. fire etc..

Now, to see how badly things are damaged.. first check the oil for milky white color (this is bad) and bring up to the proper level if it is not milky white.. if it is white I would install a new engine.

It probably got so hot the oil probably boiled out or blew a seal, I wouldnt worry about this yet.. add water to a cool engine until full, then start it up for a minute or two.. dont want to overheat it again. Does the car run well? If so then it might be worth going further to fix this engine. Does water pour out on the ground? If so then look for the coolant leak and fix it. Change the oil.. always change the oil first thing after overheating as this ruin's the oil.
