how to replace fuel filter

OK, well I know where the filter is located, and I've gathered that all you have to do is unbolt the fuel lines from it. BUT is there any way to relieve the fuel pressure first? I don't really want to spray gas in my face. If only a little bit were to spray out it would be no problem, but I hear a lot does. Haynes mannual says to relieve fuel pressure, but it doesn't say where.

Don't know your year but if you look under the hood for where your fuel lines go you can relieve the pressure at the schrader valve which is where you check the fuel pressure.

I have a 96 Jimmy CSFI. Is the valve by the throttle body?

No, it should be on the fuel rail that is supplying the injectors. It will look like a cap on a tire valve stem. Remove the cap and push in on the schrader. Just stand to the side so you don't get it in your eye. That would sting a bit.

Don't worry, you won't get sprayed.

Just slowly unscrew the fitting until the fuel start to come out and let it slowly relieve the pressure. Will take about 3 minutes and is far safer than spraying gas all over your engine bay.

on the opposite end of the filter, not the side with the fitting but the other side, is there a special tool needed too take that plastic connector off and disconnect the fuel fine from the filter

No, you should be able to pop the pastic fitting back.

Take a closer look at it, it will be obvious what you will have to do to do it.

Mine has the screw fitting in both ends seeing it is the dinosaur 1995.

Just curious, but is it one of those plastic bayonette type clips? My Dodge was riddled with them - from A/C lines to fuel fittings. The best investment I made was $16 for a special extraction tool. Saved me chewing the ends of lines up and the bayonettes and literally made the job 1-2-3 easy. But if BlazerLT says it is pretty obvious what to do, then I trust him. I have not seen these clips because I too own a dino OBD-1.5 '95 Blazer.

well i just spend 30 minutes trying to change mine, and BlazerLT was right, the plastic piece came right off and all i have to do is take the nutted end off but its on there tight and theres not much room, and the filter and hose moving dont make it easier.

Yip, just small mocements and making sure you take your time will have it off faster than rushing it and getting frustrated.

Hint for next time, put some antiseize on the threads of the one nut screw in fitting on the fuel line.
