okay, so i was with my brother in law the other day and he has a 72 datsun 510, its very badass, it has a turbo L20 with a 200zx trannie, a 97 or so (3rd gen) turbo rx7 pulled up to him and wanted to was acting all bad ass thinking that his daddy bought rx-7 was the shit and that this 510 was some sort of weird rice, anyways light turned green, rx-7 peeled out and was speeding ahead and then my bro in law started to race him, but we passed him so fast that i dont think it was really a race, so yeah, my question is what do you guys whould think would win if a rx-7, supra, or 510 were modded? engine swaps and all, but realistic ones, not like a lambo motor in the rx-7 or shit, just things that you could do in your garage, remember now, the 510 can have alot of differant motors in it, including both the rx-7's and the supra's *yes 2jze(i think thats the code), its been done*, i never hear to much about the 510 on these forums and i think you guys should learn about it, this forum should be fun.

a 200zx doesn't exist. so i have no clue where the tranny came from. however yes a datsun 510 is a car with tons of potential mostly due to its weight. so of course its goin to be faster with the same engine as a RX-7 and a supra if its running the same 13B-REW or 2JZ GTE. it has to propel 800-1600 lbs less. however its not as stable due to its archaic suspension design and when you hit bumps, the car rides like shit, and will seriously upset the balance of the car when you corner on anything but a ribbon smooth road. also high speed stablity will not be as good since the car weight soo light and have such a short wheel base compared to the JZA80 ( mark IV supra ) or the FD3S ( third gen RX-7 )

It's a 30-year-old car. The chassis and suspension aren't gonna put down power or handle NEARLY as well as an FD3S or a JZA80.

510's handle very well i dont know what you guys are talking about, the bre 510's are like go-carts, so.....yeah, of course you cant just bolt on some coilovers and have it be that good you do have to do a minamal amount of custom work, and sorry about the 200zx trannie i meant 200sx, the old rwd ones not the fwd peices of shit.

you can buy new suspension for it, but if you stick with the stock ones, it will not take bumps very well. however its light weight will make up for it by making more nimble.

I know you can replace the suspension, but I would think that having a chassis designed thirty years ago would really limit power/handling potential. If I'm wrong, can someone please explain why? Can you upgrade the chassis to modern standards too?

chassis design hasnt changed much in the last 30 years really, sure there are some cars with chassis far greater but most are basicly the same, both will need a little bit of bracing but thats all part of building a car up, ive seen a lot more newer car have chassis flex than old ones, remember that in the old days they didnt have so much safety stuff like crumple zones and all that.
