150MPH is Hell!!!!

I have a 1992 camaro with 490HP to the wheels with a 335 stroker motor the fact is the car can go fast but around 150 mph the rear of the car begins to vibrate really bad to the point where I'm scared like a b*tch! What can I do to correct the problem with my car if there even is a problem is this normal, I would know because prior to this I have never been in a car going over 150mph.

Don't drive that fast?
I mean seriously whats the sense of going 150mph your just going to end up killing someone or yourself.

if you really have 490 hp to the wheels then it would not suck in the 1/4 mile. what are your times? have you had it dynoed? and i agree with the other guy. unless you have a landspeed strip around your area don't go that fast. research landspeed and what they do for stability at these speeds. you need suspension modifications and high speed rated tires for sure. but really it will be a waste of a life when you flip it because you hit a 2 inch dip at 150 mph even on a straightaway. do the research and be safe.

My best time in the 1/4 mile was 13.15@107.I have a spot I got to and it is pretty smooth and no one ever drives it, so

it is just like with fwd going that fat the front begins to shake beacuse the front end is lifting up off the ground, same wit you only in reverse. Going that fast aerodynamics come into play and you wwould need an actual performance oriented spoiler to keep you on the ground, but seriously dont go that fast :nono:

What other mods have you done to the car, suspension wise, tires, etc?

Well the other stuff on my car isnt all that great I mean I have comp. T/A tires on the back and I have strip the car to the bone about 300 pounds of weight off of it. everything else is stock.

As a drag racer and LSR racer your nuts it your going that fast unless there's no kids, cows or cars on the road for 3 or more miles in front of you.
As for the problem, your car is lifting it's rearend and if you go much faster you'll fly in a way you won't like. I know as I flew a Hemi powered Firebird on the Salt Flats at 297 MPH when the back end came up and flew for 800 yds. Flying's great, but the landing sucks.

490 HP and 107 mph in the 1/4. Hmmm..sounds a little funny. What speedo are you using...stock one won't go that high. Are you sure it's not KPH?

If your refering to my speedometer, I assure you it's in MPH

107.1 mph sounds right for 13.1 but you should be going alot faster then that being as my friend pushes 385 rwhp and runs 12.3 on her 02 Z28..
you should definantly be in the 11s - high 10s if you can drive good that is.. i'd go and practice on feathering the clutch etc..
and on your rear end.. maybe you should get a new rear end? and a torque arm and anything else you didn't get.. you'll need it all if you wan't your rear end to last and wan't to hook real good and stick to the ground with those #s.

You're telling me you have 490 to the wheels stock? and w/ that much hp you only run a 13.1? you would be running 11s if you had that much.

The only way 490 HP = 107 mph traps is if your car weighs 5000+ lbs .... which if highly unlikely.
Regardless of your automatic, lack of LSD wheel spin ... your trap speed would be much higher. If fact, excessive tire spin may increase your mph in the 1/4 mile.
Something really doesn't add up here.

aerodymanics maybe... is your car lower???

his car is lower, in the power he thinks it makes. if he really did have it dynoed it was a happy dyno. one the shop wants to make there customers happy not informed. later . . . .

490HP STOCK??? Ha.
Believe it or not, get a spoiler. You need downforce. And I mean a REAL spoiler, not some riceboy special.

I don't get this thread at all. If you're going to make something up, why make something up that even if it was true would make you look like a moron that can't drive? Here we have:
Owned for making something up
Owned for not being able to drive
Owned for not having a clue about aerodynamics
Owned for driving way too fast
Owned for being a moron
Owned for having a car that has insufficient suspension for its power
Owned for having insufficient brakes for the power
Owned for misqoting stock HP
I don't think I've ever seen this much self ownage in this short of a time before.

^^lol, he did say he had it stroked. who in the hell strokes for hp? since after all its HP that brings your top speed up not torque (which stroking is done to gain torque, HP isjust a side effect of gaining torque in any given RPM band)
Lowering your car, putting a front air dam in, putting a rear bumper that will evacuate traped air under the car and putting a working spoiler on the car will keep you from begining to lift off of the ground. why?
Well a car is shaped like an arofoil (airplane wing). The air on top of the car is moving much faster than the air below the car. this creates a high pressure under the car causing lift. what will the previously mentioned modifications do?
Lowering: This will put the bottom of your car lower to the ground (of course) which will allow for less air under the car less air=lesspressure=less lift.
Front Air Dam: This prevents air from getting under your car in the first place. If air cant get in it cant get traped and it cant cause a high pressure.
Rear Bumper Designed to Evacuate Traped Air: This will keep what ever air flow you have under the car mvong as fast as possible keeping the pressure down and there for deminishing lift.
Spoiler: it does exactly what its name says. it "Spoils" the flow of air on top of the car causing it to slow down and there for alowing fir a slight pressure rise on the top known as Downforce. you want a spoiler that can create maximum downforce with minimum drag. Even JC whitney spoilers will give downforce but the benifits from down foce will no longer be needed because they cause massive drag.

What I don't understand is this...
The guy strokes his 302, and builds a 580 hp motor. Takes 300 lbs off of his 3600 lb car.
NOW we've got a 3300 lb, 580 hp car running 13's...
His mention of "stock" was his suspension by the way. He was explaining what he had done to reduce the vibration.
Personally, I think the car has around 260 to the wheel and weighs about 3500 lbs... and I've never met the guy.
