Hello
I own a 1998 taurus and I can't turn the " service engine soon" light off.
I have done a tune up , check all sensors, but nothing.
thanks

Read the code on the computer. If you dont have a reader, go to autozone and they will read the code for free. Once the problem is identified, the code will clear when it is fixed.

Some solutions will clear the CEL but others do not. I replaced a Camshaft Position Sensor and that cleared the light. I replaced plugs and wires but had to reset the light when the '#4 cylinder misfiring' error code was generated.
I do not know if Autozone resets that light for you.
I purchased, for other reasons as well, a CarChips unit that plugs into the diagnostics connector to decipher the codes. It also allows you to reset the system if you want.

I don't think that autozone will clear codes. From what I've been told of OBDII, and from my experience, if the problem does not come up for the next 10 or so good starts, the light will go off. Never tried on my taurus, but has worked on other cars for me.

First find out what the code is, then replace the part then either have the code cleared by someone with a code reader or on most vehicles you can disconnect the battery for a few minutes to clear the code.

FYI, my local AutoZone cleared my codes. Turns out that when I actually fixed the problem, the code cleared by itself. Removing the battery only will reset the CEL, but will not clear the codes. Fixing the problem and running it without fault for about 10 times will actually clear the code.

actually on many vehicles removing the battery will clear not only the light but the code as well. have done it many times and verified with the scanner at work.
