I WANT TO FIND OUT SOMETHING. I'M HAVING AN ARGUMENT WITH A SUBARU FAN HE SAY'S A SUBURU WRX IS FASTER THAN AND M5. I TOTALLY DISAGREE WITH HIM, MY REASONING IS THAT THE WRX IS QUICKER OFF THE MARK. 0-62 IN 4.7 SECS. THE M5 AS I'M SURE WE ALL KNOW DOES IT IN 5.2 SECS, MY DEBATE IS THAT THESE 2 MODELS WERE RACED TOGHETHER AT AN ALTITUDE OF 5500FT(JOHANNESBURG) THE SUBARU HAS A TURBOCHARGER.
THE SUBURU LEFT THE BM WITH ABOUT 2 CAR LENGTHS BEHIND AND CATAPULTED DOWN THE STRAIGHT.
THE MAGAZINE CONCLUDED THAT THE M5 IS NOT THE FASTEST SEDAN IN THE WORLD, AND THAT BMW SHOULD TAKE THE CLAIM BACK.
FIRST OF ALL THE CARS SHOULD HAVE BEEN TESTED AT SEA LEVEL AND SECOND OF ALL U DON'T JUST END A RACE AFTER A 1 KILOMETER RUN. I SAY THAT THE M5 WOULD HAVE CAUGHT UP WITH THE SUBARU IF IT HAD ENOUGH TIME.
IT'S LIKE COMPARING A 737 AND A 747 , AND SAYING THE 737 IS FASTER, IF YOU GIVE THE JUMBO ENOUGH TIME IT WILL CREAM THE 737.

The Subaru Impreza WRX is very quick, with some impressive numbers: 113.5 horsepower per liter of displacement, 227 hp at 6,000 rpm, 217 foot-pounds of torque at 4,000 rpm, and 13.6 pounds-per-horsepower.
The factory specs for the 2002 model are 0 to 60 in 6.0 seconds for the 2002 model, which is slower than the stock M5. Was the Subaru modified for the test?
Here are a couple of links for the 2002 Subaru WRX: Edmunds http://www.edmunds.com/roadtests/firstdrive/2002/subaru/impreza/44865/ and Forbes http://www.forbes.com/2001/03/12/0312test.html.
Of course, there is more to an M5 than acceleration. As Forbes says, "while BMW (and others) know precisely how to churn out cars with precise, light and exact gearboxes, toggling through the WRX's gears feels like work. The transmission is stiff and notchy, not silky." Also, "the WRX isn't nearly as cleanly executed in the fit and finish departments as the BMW...And it's plain goofy-looking."
Sorry, Subaru!

I give "Star" :finger: two "Thumbs up" I can't give the thumbs so I'll have to make do. It is a really good film though.

uhhh peterock, the WRX 0-60 is not 4.7s stock.... it's like 6.... The M5s 0-60 is actually 4.8s (bmw is very conservative with numbers) so basically an M5 would destroy a stock wrx any day any time
M5 - almost 400hp
wrx - 227hp
BIIIIIIIIIGG difference

My friend they are not compering apples with apples!!!
I have the 2002 M5 with almost $18000 worth of dinan upgardes! I challenge any subaru owner who believes it can the heat! 450 horse power and 0-60 mph in 4.1 sec..Max speed (so far) 147mph/hour before I've realized the end of the road was coming sooner then I expected...
Without upgades the car comes with 396hp and 0-60 in 4.8 secs..

Numbers posted were for a stock, WRX STi.
Reg. WRX is posted at 227 hp, 5.5 sec 0-60.
WRX STi is posted at 300hp, 4.8 sec 0-60
Slalom speed 69.1 mph. Skidpad, .88g
BMW M5 is posted at 4.9 0-60 sec.
Slalom speed 64.7 mph. Skidpad, .90g
From http://www.fast-autos.net/
The cars are so close, that it depends on the site. STi is posted at 4.7, 4.9, 4.8 sec, the M-5 4.8 or 4.9. Slalom speeds are close.
The STi is speed limited to 150 mph, though.
I believe that the Lancer Evo is slightly quicker than both cars.
However, the WRX STi WR1 (limited edition) comes in at 320 hp, and a 4.3 0-60 sec time.
Cheers,
D
