Hi guys,
I'm new here, and also new to import performance. In years past I had some fine hotrods. All 8 bangers with rear wheel drive.
I know the basics of motors, intake exhaust, and so on, but I'm not sure at all where to start with the Eclipse Spyder. It has a 2.4L SOHC plant and while fun could be a lot better.
So far I've had a tough time finding after market parts for this motor. Is it worth trying to mod? If so, Where do I start?
I'd rather not go to the bottle or turbo.
Thanks in advance,

without nitrous or a turbo, that car is pretty much always going to be slow

they are pretty easy motors to turbo since they're just a bored out 4g63 which is the turbo motor for eclipses. without either n2o or a turbo its gonna be pretty slow since you cant bore it out anymore and spyders are heavy as hell. your engine code is 4g64 do some searching on here and dsmtuners.com and you should find a upgrade path somewhere

Ok Thanks agian. I guess I need to think more about turbo. Its good to know that the 4g64 is a bored out 4g63. I take it the head/cam is different as well.
I thought about doing some porting and so on, but if I'm fighting a loosing battle without boost, I'll give the thought some time.
The car is a kick to drive. True its not the fastest thing I've owned, but with the top down speed is not as important. Oh yeah, the local police pulled me over running faster that I should have been. When the guy saw me, he grinned called me by name, and gave me a good tounge lashing. I figured I was pretty safe at 4:30 in the morning. Worse yet, my 15 yold daughter was sitting next to me. (She had a band trip to make, and we were running late.)
Thanks for the advice. Oh, yeah, the primer's and tuning section is great reading. That is the best explanation of ECM's I've seen yet. I do controls for a living, and it was great to see something written at that level :t

yes i forgot the head is different too. the 4g64 has a sohc head and the 4g63 has dohc the head is a direct swap that will pick you up some power more importantly it makes it easy to bolt on a turbo. dont bother with a t25 just go straught to a 14b at least. since you are bored out .60 over the normal turbo car size you wont have to worry as much about lag.
