Which car do you prefer out of the Volkswagen Jetta or the Mazda RX-8 or other (post your reply). I want to buy a car (out of these two). I want a car that i can mod easily. i might go with the getta, but any more suggestions??????

RX8 all the way, mainly because of that beatifully ballanced chassis.

As nice as the 1.8T is, I'm gonna have to go with the RX-8. Also, I'm pretty sure the RX-8's back seats have more leg room, even though it's a coupe.

Audi S4!

umm is silly putting "other" option in comparo... the reasons are quite obvious

jcsaleen
11-05-2004, 07:49 PM
Not really.... Because this way you can atleast look at the percentage

kind of an odd comparison but i'd probaby go for the rx-8. the jetta is too much of a "chick" car for my tastes (sorry if that offends any male jetta owners, but it's true at least where i live all i ever see driving jettas are girls)

jcsaleen makes a good point though. :D

if i was to keep the car stock i would choose the rx-8 hands down. but if i was to mod it, it would be the jetta.

Well... The only version of the RX8 I would personally ever buy would be the 6-speed manual costs just about $27,000. The best trim level of the Jetta right now is the GLi 1.8t (basically GLi is to Jetta as GTi is to Golf) which costs about $24,000. So theres about a $3,000 difference there. The VW starts with more torque then the Mazda (159 ft-lbs vs. 173 ft-lbs) but less power (180hp vs 238hp). Both cars are 6-speeds, the Mazda is RWD, the GLi is FWD. So stock v. stock, the Mazda is the better car ignoring price.

Now, watch as I spend that $3,000 saved buying the GLi...

Neuspeed Chip: +40 to 43 bhp (serious) cost: $350
Neuspeed P-Flo intake: +5 to 8 bhp cost: $250
Neuspeed Pulley: +5 to 7 bhp cost: $300
Neuspeed Intercooler: good to have w/ chip cost: $1000
KONI Coilover kit: significantly stiffer suspention cost: $1000
total: less then the 6-speed RX8

Theres countless combinations you could go with that would easily make the GLi 1.8t faster then the RX8 for less.

Conclusion:
Stock v. Stock (no price consideration): RX8 wins
Modified v. Stock (price considered): GLi Wins

yeah but what if you take our old fried jcsaleen's choice of S4.
how much does that cost?

anyway.
personal preference.
i prefer the look of the RX-8.
heck, i know it's a flawed car but what the hell......

jcsaleen
11-06-2004, 09:54 AM
S4 is so much nicer lookin and the s4's performance is better then a jetta I dont know about the rx 8 though.

drunken monkey
11-06-2004, 10:08 AM
it also costs £14,000 more than the RX-8.
or if you like, it costs a renault clio 182 more than the RX-8......

it's not dumb to make another suggestion.
it's just dumb to make a stupid one.

jcsaleen
11-06-2004, 10:12 AM
Im talking about the old S4 not the new and here in america its alot cheaper. 14000 pounds so thats around 25 k difference lol not here in the states the rx8 is 33k starting that what my friend paid and all he did was get the spoiler as an extra the s4 old model is certainly less then 32k used go for 17-19.

drunken monkey
11-06-2004, 10:24 AM
RX-8 hi power = £22,000 base
new S4 = £36,000 base
i have no idea what a 2nd hand S4 costs but then,
how old is that car?

anyway.
so now you're talking about a old car as opposed to a brand new one?

.....my perception of you gets lower and lower everytime you post.....

Hey, I thought this is about Jetta vs. RX-8. i could of swore that's what this is about.

11-06-2004, 11:58 AM
Yea, last I saw this thread was called RX8 v Jetta... The S4 reply came out of nowhere. There are tons of used cars that you could buy in the price range of these cars that would be faster. The list would go on forever. This is why "other" shouldn't be an option.

rx8 is 33k starting

Try 26K. 33K is with every option and after taxes.

US$26,000?

Here we are Apperently I was off ~

Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) has announced its RX-8 sports car, equipped with a four-speed automatic transmission, will be priced from $25,180 when it goes on sale in June. Base MSRP of the 2004 RX-8 with six-speed manual transmission is $26,680. A fully loaded RX-8 with either transmission and every available option, including leather seats, Bose audio, 18-inch tires, moonroof, and fog lamps will run approximately $30,000.

Mazda will began pre-selling the RX-8 online Jan. 8, and consumers can log on to www.mazdausa.com (http://www.mazdausa.com/) to place an order. The pre-sell process will allow prospective customers to configure their RX-8 of choice. This information is then transferred to a local dealer, where the transaction is finished.

What they say at the show Id say add at least 2k for taxes

Come to Oregon! No sales tax :)
State income taxes are evil though...

Back to the RX8...
While the base price is $26,680, you probably wont find one for that price. Most companies dont make many completely bone dry, no options versions of their cars. But 33k... thats way to high. For that price you could get yourself a pretty nice 350z or an EVO VIII or something... The whole point of the RX8 as I see it is that its cheaper then most of its competition.

"Here we are Apperently I was off ~ "

so, you mean you were posting something that you made up.... again.....

facts from the website you looked at AFTER posting initially.
"A fully loaded RX-8 with either transmission and every available option, including leather seats, Bose audio, 18-inch tires, moonroof, and fog lamps will run approximately $30,000."

what you posted.
"rx8 is 33k starting"

kid, as the mods keep saying.
next time, before you post, make sure your "facts" are right.

anyway.
back to the car.
the list price for the hi-power one is £22,000.
not sure on what it'd cost to option up everything but i haven't seen one for more than £25000

the list price of a 350Z is £24000 (GT pack is £1500 more).
again, no idea on the options costs.

as for the EVO, here that costs £24000 for the 260.
the FQ-300 is £28000.

i think the relative cost of the RX-8 over here is still lower then the ones you mentioned.
it just costs more in general.......

OK. "other" is not an option. go to www.volkswagen.com and/or www.mazdausa.com to find the real prices. problems solved.

Right now, I'd say the 05' Mustang is the best bang for buck of any car up to the C6 'Vette. 300bhp for ~$25,000 is an awesome deal in a new car.

kman10587
11-12-2004, 10:22 PM
I think the Evo RS offers a slightly better bang-for-buck than the Mustang GT. For a few grand more, you get as much as half a second faster in the quarter mile, and we all know how the Evo performs in the corners. :P

gillman6000

I'm liking the EVO VIII...
