'99 Tahoe interior lights stay on

Woke up this morning to find out the interior lights on my '99 Tahoe stayed on all night. They go out when you crank it, but stay on when you turn the engine off. Checked all the doors, all closed well, but lights won't go off. I know they're on some kind of timer, but don't know if it can be adjusted, or how. Anybody run into this before?

Clean the contacts for your barn doors and replace the door switches on the others. They are $8.00 at the dealer. I am sure they seem to work fine, But trust me they don't. I just went through it a week ago and was about to replace the keyless entry module and someone on here told me the door switches are bad even though they seem to work. I replaced mine and the problem was solved.

Thunderbolt is right on the money. My 1999 did it as well. I pulled the fuse until I could replace the door switches. It is normal you driver side but switches are cheep. Check your dome over ride button on the light switch and make sure it will stay in. Mine would not and I had to get a headlight switch as well. Dave

My 99 does the same thing. I took it to the dealer and they replaced 1 door swithch and the dome over-ride switch. It cost $300 and I have the same problem. My question is, should the dome over-ride button work only when the key is on? ON the 99 GMC I had it worked with the key on or off. Thanks

Just checked my 1999. The dome override works the same with the key on or off, in or out. If the over ride is in with the dome lights off they will stay off when you open and close the doors and will stay that way until you release the override switch. It takes about 30 seconds to turn off the lights after closing the door. The light will go out the minute you turn on the key to start. I hope this help. Dave

Is there a slick way to remove the dome light switches? My lights flicker on/off when driving and I have to use the dome override switch to get around the problem. Is a special tool needed to remove the switches from the outside our do you have to get at them from the back side?

i wouldnt go sa far as to say "slick", but it's not too hard. I did it on my 00. On the drivers side, just get you fingertips behind the bezel (the trim thingy) that runs around the outside of the dash. It's one piece that runs all the way around from gauge cluster to the other side of the radio/ac. pop that off there and you should be able to see the switch back there jutting through the side of the dash. If nothing else just unplug it, it'll stay off.
For the passenger side you have to drop the glovebox out and you can wiggle a hand back in there to do the same.

I had the same problem with my 1999 Tahoe as well. Found out it was the pin switch in the door. I replaceed both and the problem was solved. Not hard to replace. I actually have a few switches available if you are interested.

I had a similar problem, found it was the door switch for the rear window (I have a tailgate).

It was annoying as hell. For about 2 years I slammed the door closed. Then got off my butt and replaced the switch.
