We replace the engine on a 2002 745i BMW and we took it to the dealership and they can't make the cart start:

Here is the work that was done on the car:
1. Engine was replace with used engine
2. Engine wire harness was replaced new
3. Intake replaced with new intake

Here is what the dealer has done to the car:
1. Got rid of all the codes
2. Check all the recalls this car had
3. Made sure the DME was working, they put mine into another 745i bmw and it started.

That's a newer car. How about the ignition key? I think the ignition key has coding that has to match the coding of the DME. If so, has the ignition coding been changed to match the new DME?

something isn't right here. The DME and the EWS must be 'aligned' [match-up] [coded together correctly] for the car to start, something is missing. And this is a Dealer ? ? doing the work ! ? ! ? !
more info might be helpful if the 'Dealer' isn't.

it would not start in another car. it would have a vin no. mismatch as well. those particular computers wont work in any car except the one they are matched to.

I run short of time occassionally, a bit more info on the EWS used on BMW's including the EWS III (3.3) on your 745i, once the "Rolling Code Table" programmed into EWS Module at the Factory and "Burned" into the DME Control Unit during Factory installetion or later replacement and programming and is "Married" to that unit, it CAN'T BE CHANGED, i.e. it's IMPOSSIBLE for a DME Control Unit from one vehicle to start another vehicle. This a sophisticated system and can't be diagnosed with the correct equipment and knowledge.
