Lightning vs. Dogde anyone look at the prices?

Dollar for dollar,what can you buy?

I have a 2000 lightning I drive everyday(No not in the snow)I have ran two of these new dodges...From dead stop quarter mile,we both had street tires.I had no problem streching out 3 to 4 truck lengths.The other dodge didnt know how to launch it with out going up in smoke...

Dont think I am a dodge basher cause I am not..I know I cant afford what these guys paid.....They are great looking truck,need to be a bit lower...

is it just me or does this discussion seem a little one sided? id have to go with the lighting, theyre awesome. much sportier than the dodge, better looks and about dead even as far as speed goes. and once the new lightning comes out...

Sorry but the SRT-10 Ram out performs the Lightning in every category and it should for that price. I would much rather have the SRT-10. I don't care much for superchargers and you can still haul stuff with the Ram.

I was recently hired at a dyno shop and we had a ford dyno day last saturday. A lighting with a pully and exhaust put down 495 at the wheels. All of that still costs less than the SRT-10.

ummm, theyre pretty close in performance... and when u consider the rather large price difference, ya, the dodge SHOULD be running circles around the ford, but doesnt. im still waitin on the new lightning, that is the sickest looking truck and should have numbers to match.

The Viper engine has more potential than the Lightning's engine does. Besides, the SRT-10 just looks sooo much better.

Sounds like you need a dually or a Kenworth ,there polygon.........I dont think you would be hauling grain wagons with a SRT-10.....

The SRT-10 is better than the Lighting in every catergory I'd agree. But is it superior enough to warrant it's rather larger price tag..... Not even close... as cool as the SRT-10 is.... It's price is just way too much for what it is.

nonetheless these are still pickups. i think they still need to have some utility to them regardless if they're designed for speed. i don't know that the price difference substantiates value for the dodge. i'm it's fast as hell but like someone said, is it worth that much more over the ford? i wouldn't pay that much for it that's for sure. not that i'd buy a pickup either way. that's just me. 500hp to 380hp in similarly sized trucks makes it common sense which should have the performance advantage. duh! out with the old, in with the new....until ford releases the next gen lightning then it's a new ballgame all over again. as fast as the dodge may be, i'll vote for the lightning.

Yeah, you have a point. However, whether it is superior enough to warrant the price or not is subjective as well. I'm not much of a truck person, but if I bought a truck I want it to be able to work like one. I just can't stand SUVs that have no capability to go off road or do serious towing. The same goes for trucks. I just don't like vehicles that are supposed to be able to do something but can't. So for me the price of the Dodge is worth it. Also, you can just as easily spot an SRT-10 from a normal Ram.

The SRT-10 is very easy to spot, it's got a gigantic hood scoop and a funny-looking wing.

the wheelbase for the ram is too short. it looks like a giant dog head driving around. sorta like a 18 wheeler without the trailer. the lightning has much better proportions.

Someone needs to make a sport truck with Awd. Something like the silverado ss but with more balls and smaller price tag.

I like the Lightning more than the Ram SRT-10. I like the idea of being able to tune something easily. With forced induction standard, it should be easier to get more gains.

GM just introduced the Colorado and Canyon compact pickups. It'd be nice to see performance versions of them. There is a new family of GM V6s that are supposed to be available with turbochargers in the future, so just put one in the Canyon or Colorado. Voila! A new performance pickup. How about reviving the 'Syclone' badge? :D

I'd also like to see Nissan get into the performance truck game. The new Frontier will have a solid 4L V6 with plenty of power(260hp-ish), but forced induction would turn it into a monster. The Titan would benefit from a supercharger as well, since there is already an aftermarket blower for a smaller version of the Titan's V8 in the Infiniti Q45.

Toyota just needs more displacement, period.

The new full to mid size v8 toyotas are pretty stout,but the colorado and canyon are consumer's worst rated truck for that size...Why didnt they build a V8 Extream,,,they looked good but no Go.....

What i find funny is that ford guys complain that even if the srt10 ram is faster it cost more. So what about the fact that the ford GT is twice the price of a viper and its the same situation just reversed.

first off dont hold what colletti said against the entire company, he has his own mind and can use it, u dont see me holding all the stupid crap ricers say against honda (i know theres a difference of affiliation but i think u get what im saying)

The point i was trying to make was that people like to put the viper down because stock it performs less than the GT. And that is the way it should be considering that it costs twice as much.

But in this thread people put the SRT10 ram truck down because it cost more despite the fact it outperforms stock the lighting.

Bottom line both the GT and the SRT10 ram are the superior models but the viper and the lightning are the better performance bargains. So its up to the buyer to decide what it wants.

well the thing is Daimler went for another market. The srt-10 is a more exclusive limited series, and the viper engine is not your run of the mill production engine. So it will be more tractive to older guys with money and ritch your guys so they can brag about it. A low price would not work. If Daimler would've went for the same market as the lighting they would've used a forced induction production engine like the hemi.

The lighting is targeted at the tuner budget market.

Same with the Ferrari, you will never get a good performance bargain ot of one. They are exclusive cars, handbuilt with engines made from scratch each time with an exorbitant price tag. That is the point of an exotic. The modena is the Ferrari ford focus, its as cheap as a Ferrari will ever get, some people actually compain that is too cheap actually. Basically if you are lookig for the best bang for the money a Ferrari is not for you.

ya, i see wut ur saying, i dont think prestige is really worth all that much (im not much for showin off) i like the ford gt alot but that doesnt mean i would buy one over a cobra or a corvette cause its expensive (maybe that just me though) thats mainly why i like the lightning better, great performance, low price and like i mentioned earlier it looks much better, the dodge does perform better but not enough to merritt the price tag and the prestige just doesnt do it for me.

ya, i read that yesterday, great timing huh? but its been postponed for about 2 1/2 years, not cancelled, theyre putting all there efforts into the new cobra which sounds pretty f*ckin stupid to me but the next cobra should be one hell of a car if thats the case.

I guess I'll just have to keep my old truck a few more years.Time to buy some more drag radials..

The info about the srt-10 four door seed i got from autoweeek magazine.Truck trend magazine put the srt-10 two door head to head against the Lightning and the only thing the Lightning could do better was braking, but the trucks are very close in other performance aspects. The Lightning is acually faster from 0-50 then the srt-10 2dr but from there the Lightning falls back.
