Late Model Cavalier Cracked Dash Recall

For all late model Chevrolet Cavalier car owners who have had their front part of their dash crack. This part of the dash is known as the "Lower Trim Panel" and is over $750.00 to replace from the dealer. I have created a site http://www.xydon.com/apps/cavalier/ to record the number of people who have had this happen to them as well.
I feel this is a manufacturer defect and Chevrolet to flip the bill for replacement. I have tried to negotiate with Chevrolet to replace my dash and the bastards told me "Go ahead and pay out of pocket for the repairs and then submit your receipt for possible consideration for reimbursement." This outraged me as I know this is a manufacturer defect. Join together and enter your information to this cavalier database. I will then after a few months of solicitation notify you of the status.
I intend to obtain a lawyer and go toe to toe with Chevy for all of you. No money will be asked of you, just that you provide ligitimate information. Hopefully I can get Chevy to do a recall on this and get YOUR cracked dashes replaced, as well as mine.

My 1999 Cavy has a four inch section where it has come apart from the rest of the panel..... It is a Florida car and the sun is very, very strong...

Do me a favor, go to my link in my email and see if it is in the same place. All the ones I am getting are right in front of the heating vent slightly to the left. Please let me know if it is similar. If so go ahead and fill out the online form for your car. Please provide a digital photo please.

The 99 that was just bought (not a z24 though) has that cracked in 3 areas, above the center vents for the window defrost, and in on the right and left side, near the doors.

Just goes to prove,GM cheapened the J car with the 3rd generation that started in 95.I have yet to see a 2nd generation J crack a dash.

I've seen cracks from 95 onward, but what is the use in getting it replaced. All it is going to do is crack again.
Also the link doesn't work here...

From what I understand, that crack is the result of a few screws that are attached to the vent up there being overtightened from the factory...so it shouldn't crack again if the screws aren't overtightened.

I thought is was because the dash really didn't fit and they slammed in there and the result of vibrations and heat and cold cause it to crack. But both may be right for that matter, it is a cavalier

Just the overall feel of the 95-up J cars,GM really did a dis-service to the public by charging more and giving them less.Shorter tail end, dinkier dash, lower sitting seats, the rear coil/over struts (like a VW Golf)as opposed to the tried and true separate coils/shock absorbers, daytime running lights, the cheaply designed overhanging rear door skin (replacing the separate dog leg),brittle hub caps.......it all ads up to GM's 3rd Gen re-do of the J car was done to make them more money, and take more out of the pockets of the buying public. Take any 88-94 2dr and put it alongside any 95-2005 2dr.Look at how insignificant the later car looks, and look at how "beefy" the older model seems.I dont think the 82-94 Cavalier is a perfect car by any means (pretty crude in a lot of ways),but Generous Motors seriously went Wal Mart on the materials used in the 3G cars.

man lances, that does suck, ive never actually seen a cavalier dash cracked, luckily enough, my dash is still in new condition, also, if its not a safety issue, they're probably not gonna recall it

Yeah I know, it'd probly be alot easier and less a hassle to just find one at the junkyard or ebay.

Yeah it is just a bunch of over-tightened screws...if you are lucky enough to get a Cav dash piece without cracks, or find a Cav for sale without the crack, the first thing you should do is go in the dash and loosen every screw holding that mofo on...may rattle a little bit, but its better than a gaping hole in your dash!!!

Hell I can pull out a bigger piece than that on mine. Mine is cracked like Lances only difference is mine is no longer attached at all and I can just pull it out. That doesn't include the other 3 or 4 cracks in mine which also caused another piece to fall out. I'll get pics later.

People, you'll NEVER get any manufacturer to do a recall on anything not saftey related. You read on here all kinds of people doing the same thing with Passlock failures but again, since these don't create any driving issues, GM will do nothing.
Maybe if you say that you keep finding yourself staring at the crack while driving you'll be OK ;)
