i have an offer to race a stock RSX type-s, i have i/h/e on a 03 tib gt 6-speed. who do you think would win

RSX-S. You'll prob stay even untill you need to shift, at that time the RSX will pull a bit on you and then it will repeat on every shift.
Gotta love high rpm's.
PS how many hp does the tib have and how much does it weigh?

Ok so i looked it up myself,
04 Tib GT 6speed, 172hp@6000rpm 3015lbs, .06hp:1lb
01-03 RSX-S 6 speed, 220hp@7800rpm 2767lbs, .08hp:1lb
With your i/h/e you might be nearing the 200hp mark. Say you make 200 hp you are still only .07hp:1lb in the tib. PLuss you have to factor in your weight, driver experance, tires, road condition, engine condition, gear ratios.
But my money is on the RSX-S

I'm afraid you are confusing the Type S with the Type R. The S has only 200 hp and its replacement will have 210.
But IMO the RSX will still win.

Oops, my bad :P
RSX 142ftlbs@6000rpm
Tib 181ftlbs@4000rpm
But that still wont be enought to compensate for weight. It will be a close race i think, but from my exerpacen RSX-S are DAM fast.

It's close enough that it could easly be a driver's race. Whoever can launch better and shift better should win no problem.

Torque means shit. A car can have 500ft of torque and be beaten by a 200 hp car.
Horsepower is derivative of torque, the RSX has more torque throughout the powerband than the Tiburon. So it sustains its torque longer.

well we raced and it was pretty lopsided. we raced 3 times all from 40mph. first race was up to 90mph.
i pulled through 3rd, and 4th. when i shut down i was like 2 cars out in front. he said he got a bad launch and said i got lucky and would beat me this time. i pulled through 3rd and 4th, and part of 5th. about 105mph. i was out in front by about 2 cars.
i was surprised cause i was expecting him to do a little better than last time. he came back and said "i was starting to catch you." "this time go until i pass you" so we go again i pull through 3rd, 4th,5th, when i shift into 6th i'm out like 3-4 cars and i continue to walk away from him until 140.

Dude, I agree with you, My girl has a tiburon v6 6 speed and she has never lost to an rsx type s and she's stock. But I have to say, she launches that car like a damn demon. She pulls on everything not AWD by like 1 to 1 1/2 car length by the end of 1st. She pretty much beats type s's by 1-2 cars by the end of the 1/4 mile.

if your chic can beat rsx-s with her tib that means i could beat an rsx too. i thought a type s would easily take out a tib.

Hey whats that suppose to mean!!!! You calling her a crappy driver!!!!! J/K But yeah, I thought those things ran 14.9's? But I guess it's hard for non professionals to get that time. As a matter of fact, I've seen more times for the type s around 15.4's then I do at 14.9.

Umm. Sorry man but your incorrect :)
Of course both things count, horsepower is derivative of torque, so a car with a higher horsepower number has more torque throughout its powerband.
I have experience drag racing, I race with a 1.6 liter torquless car and beat mustangs V8s 4.6 liters. Stock for Stock. People talk too much shit without having any real experience.

Who said I was talking shit??? I was just saying that torque does play a big role in racing. Just because you have a 15.4 second time slip doesn't mean your some racing guru. My truck has plenty of torque and horsepower so I'll beat your ass at the dragstrip and tow your ass home.

I just say: Torque wins races, horsepower sells cars is INCORRECT.
Thats all. There MANY factors involved in a race other than torque and horsepower. Not wanting to create a fight or anything...and yes you can beat me and tow me home with your truck, my car is not fast, just quick...Peace

Ok, I have had my rsx type-s for almost 6 months, and my boy has a tiburon,
he has a lot of trouble trying even to keep up. I crush that car from take off, and the only thing i have done is aem v2 intake.
We did it from take and at 50 mph.
Your guy just didn't know how to race, and i only lost to an srt4 by 1 car

Savior1974
10-27-2004, 10:16 PM
........ Yeah he must not be able to drive it yet. When I raced an srt-4's I barely edged him out at the 1/4 mile and he was pulling on me hella hard (thank god for AWD launchs.) I ran really high 13's then about 13.8-13.9 . Everytime I raced RSX-S, the Rsx-s's get owned by like 3 cars by me (which is like a bus length). Now like I said, shes a hell of a driver man, and as far as I knew from mag time comparisons (bench racing), Tibs would get owned by the type s's. But from what I've actually seen, It's never happened. She's raced about 3 of them and never lost. Maybe you should tell your friend that I can ask my girl to teach him how to drive if he wants.
Savior1974
10-27-2004, 10:28 PM
BTW I just reread your post and I just thought of something, You said you kill your friend from take off? Well, that proves that he needs to learn how to drive. His car has more torque and also reaches full power before your car. Your power comes in at the higher RPMs (VTEC). He should beat you though first and second at least. Third gear is where you should come back and beat him (If you were gonna beat him) and then you should pull from then on in the higher gears. But that would be the case in the ultimate bench race. Using all the magazine facts that would happen, but we all know drivers skill plays a huge role in winning and losing.............. Maybe your friend should take those lessons.

Sorry to all the Honda fans here but I come with an unbiased opinion.
For one: Tiburon GT V6's respond REALLY REALLY well to mods. A stock RSX Type S at best is still 15 flat, but a Tiburon GT with full bolt ons and good tires is mid 14's worthy. Sorry. Better luck next time.
For two: The RSX Type S does have a mean top end.........compared to other i4's. The Tiburon has a really aggressive power band in higher RPM.
As far as race for race: I'd bet 50 bucks on a Tib with bolt on's against an RSX Type S any day of the week.
Car for car: RSX Type S handles better and with a good driver can do a lot better than said results.

Ok then when your in a low speed tight turn you have to wait for your higher rpms to get goin, with more torque you hit the gas and can pull through the turn just fine. For cars with no torque your gonna have to be going and not drop out of your power band whereas if you have an engine with torque you have power everywhere, so what if your engine has more torque througout, it's also got another 3000 rpm, would you like to take average torque?? :loser:

I have fuel for both ends to be honest. Most I4's are front wheel drive and hence, have more of an outside to in, approach to cornering, and thus, always SHOULD be in mid-range RPM exiting from a turn.
Rear wheel drive vehicles tend to hug the inside and let the rear wheels push you out in cornering.
Coming out of a turn, an experienced driver should know how to keep the RPM at ideal range no matter what. Also, it's said that the low torque of the B16A offers advantages in some circumstances. I've seen more than a fair share of Vettes and big V8's lose traction in small corners.
VTEC being the replacement for displacement is a stupid thing for someone to say, but it can be said that forced induction or driver skill makes up for displacement.
