monte carlo's and mustangs?

Anyone know how the 350 4.3 liter chevy monte carlo's compare to the 5.0 Mustangs. I know it can very. My friend was telling me that the monte carlo's are faster stock , but then again this kid has told me some stupid ass things before that I think he just wants to hear for himself. Just wondering cause I own a mustang but i was also thinking about one day also buying an 85 or around that year monte carlo. Any input ?

First of all, if it's 350 cubic inches, it should be around 5.7 liters. And I'm pretty sure that the Mustang 5.0 (assuming it's 87-95) will be faster, GM's V8s were pretty weak back then.

Are you wanting a general idea of how the 5.0L/305ci 80's Chevy Monte Carlo's stackup, or of now the 4.3L/ 263ci V-6 80's Monte Carlo's stack up? There was no 350ci 1980's Monte Carlo offered, although every other guy you run into thinks there was.

Anyway, it really does not matter which engine you pick, SS Monte Carlo or whatever. Any Mustang GT from 1982 and up will absolutely behead any of the V-8 G-bodies from the 1980's. Unfortunately,cars like the Monte SS and Hurst Olds were really just appearance packages that were very,very underpowered.

My 88 Thunderbird Turbo coupe was so much faster than my brothers Monte SS it was sad. Take your pick, standing start, from a roll, it really did not make a difference. And my 88 Turbo Coupe was not IMO fast.

Now, do not get me wrong. The Monte Carlo from the 80's, especially in SS trim, had real potential as modern day muscle cars, but you had top put the muscle in it did not come that way.

The SS was a looker, as were the Regal and Cutlass when done well. However, let it be known that these cars were never meant as "handlers" and even a lot of work generally results in a car that simply doesn't embarass and seldom impresses. (The front suspension was shared with the S-10 pickup...no kidding...Hey, I wonder how difficult it would be to shove a Syclone's awd under there??? Engine too!!!)

They do ride well, and the full length frame really allows a lot of mods that can make modded versions of these cars hook up well at the strip. Just don't expect to go running down any V-8 Mustang's stock.

Do you mean 1992 and up?

If that's what you meant to say then I completely agree with everything syr74 said. The 80s was a horrible time for any of the American V8s.

i think i read somewhere that the ss monte at it's best did like a 15.9 stock.
