Bronco II 1987 Eddie Bauer Fuel Gauge

Have a Bronco II EB. The gauge will not register the gas in the tank and reads empty. The low fuel light on the console between the seats will not go off depite a full tank.
It started a few months back. The needle acted sluggish and then dropped to E. 3 days later it registered again, but sank to E on the road and has not worked since. I have replaced all the fuses in the fuse box. Next will change the relays.
Anyone have an idea what is happened? I though by replacing the fuses it should have corrected itself.
Thanks,
Mcbreagh

The sending unit in the tank is bad or wore out if you can replace the whole thing. A local junk yard will have possible replacenents if not the part will cost about 100$ give or take a few $ depending on the area you are in.
