Hello all,
I have a quick question. My friend is betting me that his 1992 Accord EX 4-door, with an automatic transmission, can out-accelerate my girlfriend's 2000 Civic Si. He says he beat one the other day mid-acceleration, but I think he's full of it. Am I right in assuming that there's no possible way that he could be correct? What are the 0-60 and 1/4 mile figures for the 4-door '92 Accord auto? I know the Si can 0-60 in about 7.8 - 8.0 seconds and a quatermile at around 15.8 seconds. Thanks in advance.

well... if it looks like this under the hood, http://efx.dhs.org/accord/pics/p4new.jpg
then he stands a chance, but its not very likely,
he has 130 hp and weighs 2900lbs , and i somehow think taht the si has more and weighs less *cough*, is the civic manual? cause then i *KNOW* there is know way. i dont know the 0-60 time, it could a be close to the si for all i really know but i also doubt it.you can always find out the easy way though :D
that pic was a turbo btw~

Well, I know for a fact that the 1999 and 2000 Civic Si's have 160 horsepower at the crank and 111 lb./ft. or torque. As far as weight is concerned, the Si weight around 2600, so that beat the '92 Accord EX by 300 lbs. I found several 0-60 and 1/4 mile times on the net which have the Civic Si going anywhere from 7.2 - 7.5 second in the 0-60 and around 15.2 - 15.6 in the 1/4 miles. The '92 Accord EX (either manual or auto, it didn't say), has a 9.7 0-60 time and a 17.3 1/4 miles. I guess this proves it on paper, but I'll have to have my friend bring his Accord up against my girlfriend's Si for the real thing. You are right, it is the only way to be sure. :-)

Oh yes, and all 1999 and 2000 Civic Si's are 5-speed manual (close ratio). She's pretty good with a 5-speed, his automatic transmission shouldn't stand a chance...but so he claims...

i just want to say i have a little bit of doubt in that 9.7 time, because mine is a 91, lx, 2 door, which weighs around 2700 lbs, it has 125 hp, and i hit 65 in second gear, its an auto but has the "sports" button which makes it shift at red line. its not a fast car but i dont this its that slow either

Those are totally unconfirmed times, so they can't be substantiated. But my friend's '92 Accord EX does not have the sport mode button for the automatic transmission, and as peppy as he might say it seems, I just cen't see it beating a 2000 Civic Si which is simple a faster car.

Since it's an Auto, it has no chance in hell. It's probably bone stock too. The Si is quick but has shitty torque. I have a 92 accord with DC 4-2-1 headers, AEM CAI, AEM cam gear, Unorthodox pulley, custom catback with Apex N-1 muffler, ACT clutch and i have taken a couple Si's out if we're off the line. On a downshift, they start leaving me, but not by much, half a car length. So it depends on the driver i think. Oh yeah, mines a 5-speed EX rolling on 17's.

its going to take a 92 accord some work to make it beat a si...especially a auto.
