ive got £16000 to spend on either a honda civic type r or a supra tt. Dont think the type r looks that nice but it fairly goes. Iwant a supra but practicality plays a (very small) part as my girlfriend has a 13 year old kid. Also quite worried about running costs of the supra due to its age. Wot do you think ?????? c'mon help me out here !!!

Well supras are much nicer and faster than a civic type r. The problem is they are VERY expensive and you rarely find one in that price range that is in good condition. Do you like domestics? F bodies and mustangs are fast and inexpensive but they dont have much of a back seat for practicality, dont know about the back seat in a supra.

Keep in mind that he is speaking in pounds, so he probably lives in the U.K.

Well if you want both speed and practicality what about an older EVO or STI.

Used E36 BMW M3. Its in your price range, has a rear seat, and its the best handling car in its time (C&D). If you have to haul three people around, the Supra is impossible.

Sorry, but the E36 M3 will not outhandle the Evo or STi from that time period. I don't care what C&D says :)

Oh yeah, that would be around the EVO VI, especially the .5 Makkinen edition. Now that was an evo :naughty:

But i agree an E36 would be nice too.

They are both VERY different kinds of sports cars. TBH even if they where both in the same price range I dont see how you can be torn between them. One is a fat and fast(and can be made to go too fast easily) while the other is light, nimble and handles very well but is far from a strate line monster.
I too will recommend an STI or EVO for practicality and sportiness. They both handle very well and are fast to boot. Plus all the practicle sides of having a sadan(or for WRX maybe even a wagon/hatch).

You can get a lot for £16k.
My opinion:

Civic Type-R - not convinced by the looks, fairly common, FWD. No thanks
Supra - good luck finding a good one, i'd rather have an M3 anyway
E36 M3 - awesome engine, classier than the Supra, can get a good evo "on a T" for ~£16k

My one concern with the above two is that repairs could be steep, so you could also consider a used 330Ci that's still under warranty, which you can easily get for ~£16k. 230bhp, great interior, and can easily accommodate a kid in the back. Let us know what you go for.

I guess thats up to interpretation... But yea, I can see where your coming from, especially since the STi and EVO wern't in that comparo. Still, its impressive that it supposedly outhandled such beasts as the Vette, Viper, NSX, Boxster, I think there was a 911 but im not sure, Supra TT, 300zx, etc... And the M3 is a much nicer ride then the EVO and STi. I doubt any repair prices for a M3 would be any more then a Supra TT.
