My wife has a 2001 passat turbo 1.8. She told me that it has been acting odd when she is at a stop sign the car idols up and down. More the she remembers in the past. I took it for a ride and I don't hear the turbo kicking in. Is there an easy answer or will I be shelling out thousands?? Thanks for any reply.

Ok I can help you about as much as the two ahead of me that said I dont know. I would talk to people in the VW forums.

for your idle concern you need to clean the throttle housing. this you can do yourself with and allen wrench for removing the throttle housing and some carb and choke cleaner. then you will need to have a throttle adaption performed. for this you will have to visit a volkswagen dealer or find someone that has the ross tech software. as far as the turbo concern there are many possibilities for that concern. hope this helps for the idle concern.

there also may be a vacuum leak causing the concern. check the large vacuum line by the coolant expansion tank at the intake with the vehicle running. the vacuum line runs to the brake booster good luck and let me know what you find.

I would also suggest cleaning your throttle body; it helped smooth out my idle. Other areas to check would be the vacum lines as already suggested and the MAF.

I'm having the same problem with my 2001 Passat. Did you have it fixed and what was the cause. My is acting like someone is hit the gas and the car jumps forward.
