GSX. The 1.8Ts are slower than stock GSXs, and I dont think the VR6s are any faster (heavier). No VW expert though...

from what i have seen the vr6 gti is not that fast. they have a really bad prob. with traction off the line. gotta love the gsx!!

The dudes in Kevin's videos must seriously be borderline retarded paraplegics, because when you look at the times Kevin runs they really aren't that ridiculous (yet)! And still he beats the people he races by like an 1/8 mile :lol2:! I think the video of the wrx and vr6 are when he had the 14b, relatively untuned...

It ussually comes down to the driver, Yes a GSX is faster then a VR6 (stock for stock), but keep in mind the VR6 is also a powerfull engine w/ lots of potential, but is severly effected by the weight of VW's, especially if its a jetta. But then again my next door neighbours VW Corrodo VR6 has 260whp with lots more room for mods. Bassically any car can be fast if proper things are done and the driver knows how to drive it.
BTW The new VW Jetta GLi is now 200hp(VR6) Stock
Nonetheless, when it comes to 4 banger sports cars DSM's are the sh*t

What about the Nissan 4 cylinders? (SR20DET for instance)
or
the 3SGTE Toyota motor?
Dont say that the DSM's are the only 4 bangers out there putting down serious power...b/c they arent...DSM's maybe the cheapest to make go fast...but they are the hardest out of the other two engines I mentioned to maintain and keep running well...ie reliablity sux

Traction off the line makes the DSM worth it. The videos of my car mentioned above illustrate this point. In those runs I had about 250 whp. Nothing spectacular. I used to beat cars with 100 hp more than that, just because of the AWD advantage.
Power is only half the battle when racing, but its all people want to talk about. The other half is getting the power to the ground, spinnin aint winnin ;)
If you want to take a shot at the reliabilty of the DSM, go for it. But you cant say that the DSM MOTOR is unreliable. It takes over 500 whp on stock internals. The rest of the car may have it issues (mostly drivetrain, because of the excessive traction), but you are talking about motors ;)
You are right Joe. I was on a 14b and pump gas, a whopping 1800 in mods at that point. With race gas the car had previously gone 12.7s at up to 109 mph. But the car was very lightly modded, basically what you would already have if it was a 1g. Thats also on regular all season street tires. I was pulling 1.8s in those vids at best, and on the same tires I have since gone 1.55 in the 60 foot. That increases the AWD advantage even more. ;)
There are other motors that make power just as readily as the 4g63 (I'm a big fan of the Supras motor). But if I cant get it in AWD, I'll pass.

1st off...alot of the racing that goes on around here in my area isnt even done off the launch...so you're AWD advantage would go to crap b/c from a 40 or 60 mph roll...AWD is null and void...
2nd off...there's a 3SGTE in Orlando that makes 525rwhp on stock internals and there's 500rwhp SR20DET's around too...so...it's not saying much either
We can argue back and forth...but I just wanted you to realize that those 3 factory turbo motors...are all on the same level performance wise...they all come 2.0 liter turbo 4 cylinder and make great power...and being RWD, Mid engine RWD, or AWD...they all have their pro's and con's...

The 3S-GTE can be all-wheel-drive; it is in the Celica GT-Four. Same with the SR20DET; look up the Nissan Sunny GTi-R. And let's not forget the EJ20, Subaru's 2.0 Turbo AWD boxer engine. Audi has a decent 2.0 Turbo in the new all-wheel-drive A3 as well.

I dont know where you're from, but around here we race at a track. You dont go from a roll at a drag strip. Better stick to highway racing where you have a chance ;)

I'm closer to 550 to the wheels (4 of them). I dont see your point.

You're right, this is a never ending debate. And I never doubted the potential of those motors. I still prefer the DSM for many reasons, thats my choice. But you guys are forgetting the original question. GTI vs GSX, stock for stock. GSX would win, thanks to AWD. All of this other BS is just dragging this off topic to discredit the DSM guys and make this a pissing contest. ;) But thanks for showing up today.
