2001 Camaro SS v. Dodge SRT-4

I need an honest opinion of which car would win between a Ls1 Camaro and an srt4 dodge. They are both manual and both are stock. My friend and I have been in an arguement and hopefully this will present an outcome. Thanks.

The srt-4 is quick, but not LS1 quick.

Ls1-low thirteens witha good driver(13.2-3)

Srt 4- Mid to high thirteens with a good driver(13.6-13.9)

There is no total outcome of posting this, It all depends on the driver and how well he can drive. Just because someone says the neons slower, doesn't mean it cant beat the camaro if the camaro driver can't drive.

Yeah, the SRT-4 is close enough that it could come down to the driver.

Good driver vs. good driver = Camaro SS
Good driver vs. bad driver = Camaro SS
Bad driver vs. bad driver = Camaro SS

srt-4 are running everything from 14.4 to 13.6

they don't run 13.5-13.1

If you took the same driver and times him/her in each car the LS1 would win...therefore I say the LS1 is the faster car

Yeah, but it's easier to get a good launch with an SRT-4 than it is with an SS.

i don't see how. when i was at the track, both srt-4's were having pretty hard times launching them. to were one of them rn a 14.8 then a 14.5

seems to me the maro ss runs consistant 13.6-13.3 at the track when i go. and i find rwd actually easier to launch then fwd. depending on the car

Well you know more about it than me, I just thought it'd be harder to find traction with 340 ft-lb going to your wheels. Then again, the weight shift is onto the rear wheels, so I guess that helps the SS.

normally the SS would win, its RWD with a solid beam axle at the back excellent for drag racing.

the srt4 is FWD so weight shift works against it, and its quaife diff is helical aka torsen better suited for handling than drag racing(it will still help though)

However their perfomance is close enogh that a bad camaro driver can lose. Its easy to lose 3/4 of a sec or even more in a quarter with a bog or two much wheel spin.

Also altitude will play a huge factor. Here in Utah at over 4000 feet ls1 are low 14 sec cars. No matter how good the ls1 engines are, lack of air kills NA cars fast. On the other hand boosted cars suffer less from altitude and the srt4's in particular are designed to increase boost at altitude to compensate.

And on the other hand heat kills turbo cars very fast too, even more so than na

so low altitude high heat will give the ls1 more of an edge
hight altitude cool air will even the score quite a bit and even give the srt4 an edge

as a turbocharged owner.................. i hate heat

you should make a Ic sprayer. All you need is some home depot stuff and a bit if imagination.

It would really come in handy during scorching days when the IC is heat soaked.

you know i was thinking about buying that N20 stuff

but, i never thought about a custom sprayer

another idea like that and i'm labeling you a genius

hahah i hate heat too. on the dyno i lost up to 20-30 whp from heat after 4 runs. so i have to have a 15 minute cool off time before hp is restored to normal.

I find this thread kind of funny but interesting. For a while here, the LS1 Camaro was more like a myth then a car. It was the car no one screwed with. (OMG IT RUNZ HI TWELVEZ) Now its being compared with the SRT-4. Now I am not bashing the SRT-4 at all. It's an incredible car, but it seems that the LS1's god like status has been revoked.

No one's revoking the Camaro's status as a drag monster, they're just saying that the SRT-4 is another viable option that can be bought brand new, has a better suspension, stops quicker, and has turbo tunability.

Well, if you want to use a compressed gas you could use compressed oxygen. It has the same effect, but it’s much cheaper than N2O. You can thank Neutrino for that idea as well.

I kind of agreed with you, the LS1 cars did have sort of a god like status for us tuners. The same can be said of the Supra, but seriously now $20,000 SRT-4s can give LS1s a run for their money. I still fear the Single Turbo Supra though, I saw one on the freeway the other day, I've seen a lot of fast cars in my life, but I have never seen a car move like the Supra did (on public roads too). I mean all I can say is WOW!

I know that my lightley modded 1997 Camaro Z28 Convertible would walk away from an SRT-4 from the lights. There was no chance for it. The Z28 had a aftermarket exhaust, headers, ignition, and intake. Also a few suspension pieces. to compare, a CamaroSS will give a good run against my Z28.
So, the SS would be faster of the two for sure. SRT-4 deserves a lot of credit for its performance credentials mind you.

camro ss would walk srt 4's all day long, that being said the srt 4 is a pretty badass car especially for the bank but i would take a camro over an srt anyday (assuming theyre in comparable condition)
