What Dream Car Should I/Would You Get?

Hi,
I am actually asking this on behalf of my father. He is going to retire soon and is looking at getting a new car. He first told me that he was thinking of the Dodge Viper, until he found out about the new 2005 Ford GT. So he is now thinking about getting the Ford GT rated at 550 hp, it sounds like a good car but I just don't want him to jump into anything blind folded and would like him to explore more options.
I'm into the Japanese cars myself. My daily driver is a Subaru Impreza and I am currently building a new Drift Spec 240sx with and SR20DET.
My dream car has been a hard tuned R34 GTR ever since I first found out about them so naturally that is one of the cars I was thinking about for my dad. The only problem is that you can only get them through Motorex and they take forever to get.
I would personally take a well-tuned car over a stock high-end sports car any day so I'm looking for some suggestions on a good car that can be hard tuned.
He doesn't really like the look of the RX8's or the 350Z's so those would not be an option. Although, I have heard of some extremely well tuned G35's with twin turbo set-ups that put out about 600hp.
Other cars that I was thinking about are a tuned Porche 911 or a tuned BMW M3.
Any suggestions are welcome so please list them all.
Thanks

Get the C6 Corvette, it's a better value than the Dodge Viper and Ford GT in my opinion.

If hes looking at a Ford GT and dream cars I wouldn't put money as anything to keep into consideration...I would say the Porsche Carerra GT, or mabe a Maserati Spyder

Well there's a considerable difference between 150k GT and Carrera GT 444k price tag...but Motor Trend did a comparo between the Enzo, GT, and Carrera GT...to see what speed they could achieve in a given distance on a track...the GT was 200 mph, the Carrera GT was 201, the Enzo was 211 mph.
So the difference between the GT and Carrera GT is I think really not that great. The GT is mean as hell and I think a good buy compared to the others. If he is pro American and likes the V8...then tell him to go for it.
The 350Z, RX8 etc...dont compare to a GT. It's really not the same...not matter what forced induction you do.
But in response to what I would get...here are my responses:
Under 50k:
Lotus Elise (now available in the USA!!!)
Under 100k:
Dodge Viper SRT
Under 150k:
Porsche GT3

Yeah I like Supras but my dad is looking for a new car. The corvette is for sure a good bang for the buck but I'm not so sure about it. Thanks for the advice.

i'd say go ahead and get the ford gt
i would choose a high end car over a tuned car anyday!
also that car is obviously more rare than any tuned car, and something made by the brains of shelby. saleen and jack roush............ well that just does it for me
but maybe thats just me :)

My new car was a retirement gift to myself. This is my close to my dream car. I already own my dream car, a 300SL Gullwing, but this SL65 AMG is without doubt better than most of my previous purchases, and the only car that comes close is my wifes DB9.
So theres three to think about.

Actually on the track it's a bit different. Mind you, he probably won't race it so it's a moot point buuuut from Top Gear track times the Carrera GT was superior by a few seconds. Although it should be since it is anywhere from 2-3 times the price. The GT did beat out the 360CS and the GT3 RS however. So it is still the best bargain at 150k... if you can even get one.

I have found out that you actually can't get the GT for 150k. The first one sold for 557k I think, then I heard another guy got one for 440k. I did some searching around and the cheapest I could find one was 310k US.

People need to realize that a 11 second street car is fucking fast, esp if daily driven. A 200 nitrous shot Enzo? Are you insane?!?

200 nitrous shot Enzo??? that is a bit overkill and i wouldnt take that kind of risk with a car that expensive, theyve already squeezed so much power out of that thing there cant be much slack... and out of all the cars listed id go for the gt unless ur pops is really loaded, then go for an s7... or if hes willing to wait a few years get the new shelby... its hot

I dont think so. the enzo is a V12 that is very sophisticated. yet its only pumping out 650 hp. many smaller engines can do that without breaking a sweat.
As for the recommendation of the enzo, i would like to see you get your hands on one for less than a million

well my pick would be the GT. Awsome performance(check out megastars in C/D). Great price(if you can find one that a dealer did not jack up).

Considering all factors, such as price, performance, styling and looks. I would have to tell him to go for the 2005 Dodge Viper RT-10. It is true that it isnt quite as powerful as most of the other vehicles that are being mentioned but it is still one badass machine. And none of the other cars mentioned can even come close to the handling of the Viper. I know there will be some arguing over this, but Dodge has already released the new specs and the Viper is pulling a 1.25 Lateral G. Raised from last years 1.15 Lateral G. And Vipers look great and are still a rarity on the road. And with the price difference you can easily do a heads and cam package on the Viper, with exhaust and full bolt-ons and reach somewhere around 650hp.
Other than the viper I would look into a Noble M12 or maybe an Ultima GTR (i think that was the name). These are both awesome cars.

i have to agree that the vipers handling has gone up a bit and that it can be modifed for pretty cheap (an 8.2 liter engine should be puttin down close to a thousand horsepower when u consider its in a 90,000 dollar car) but first off, its still not quite on the level of the ford gt even though it can be easily modded to and secondly for the most part people dont modify these cars. and thirdly (and the main thing) when u buy a car like these ur mainly buying the name (sad but true) and the ford gt name (or the porches etc...) will hold a little more prestige than the viper... cause lets face it if u want a high 11 second car u can get one for alot less than 150,000. (or the 90,000 viper price tag)

Yeah, but Viper is still a pretty exotic car that you dont see often. And it is really hard to find a Ford GT for MSRP. And a 1.25 Lateral G is more than a bit of a step-up. Considering the Ferrari Enzo is only a .98-1.00 Lateral G depending on the road testers. I know of no other car that can boast a 1.25 Lateral G coming in at under $500,000. Or even over it for that matter. And the Viper now comes in White also.

well if your willing to spend 150 grand, I would think it would be cooler to have a much more rare car.

I just read somewhere that they are holding onto about 400 cars, to show in the dealers, so maybe hed have a chance on one in the near future.
