Hey guys, im posting about my recent experience at a performance shop in Carlisle PA called Auto Effex.

I was getting a ZEX Dry kit and Purge kit installed, and i should have just done it myself, becuz i basically did anyway.

How i got screwed... where do i start.....

first i called a week ahead, and they said installation shouldnt take long and to come in on monday. The monday i came in, and they were "overbooked" so my car had to spend the night there. Fine i thought.

The following day, i get a call, the purge button was broken, and i was missing a purge line supposdly. Since the kit was used, i wasnt mad, but i knew the purge button wasnt broken, becuz i had installed it in my car before i went, so they wouldnt drill any unwanted holes in the interior.

That day i went to get the car, knowing that the purge kit didnt work, and i get the bill, a whooping $380 and some odd dollars. I was shocked, they charged me 7.5 hours of labor. i asked why it took so long and they said that it was becuz they did a "quality job, and didnt half ass it." (zex advertises 3-4 hours)

They agreed they wouldnt charge me any more labor when they put the new purge button in. I was mad but payed the bill.

On my way home, i noticed a really loud rattle, and got home and checked the engine, the throttle body, touched zex solenoid unit. i called and bitched and they said they would fix it when they put the second button in.

Day 2:

They put the new button in and reinstalled the solenoid unit underneath the wiper cowl. It would have been a nice install, but, they ran the vaum hoses right thro the VIN number on the firewall.

They insured that it would work, so i went down the road and got the bottle filled, it still didnt work and the purge button didnt work either.

Day 3: The nitrous managment unit wasnt turning on, so i went back and they rewired power, and they also noticed that my $26 dollar purge switch was broke. The contacts didnt touch. I was in a hurry, they told me it was good to go, so i left for my friends wedding, and tried it on the way, it still didnt work.

The next day, my friends and i checked over their wiring. we reset the box and noticed it wasnt picking up the throttle memory. we noticed that at the throttle postion sensor, the zex unit, was wired to a green wire at the throttle position, not the red. I called zex and they said it was wired wrong, they said it was wired to a 5 volt at the sensor, not the 12 volt. (at this time, i also made a purge line, out of copper tubing)

day 4: i go back and bitch some more, so they rewire the sensor, and the box resets and seems to be working. They didnt have the new switch in, so the purge still wasnt working.

i tested the nitrous and it was working, hooray!

If only that was the end..............

I did about 3 runs, and a couple days later wanted to show my friend but the bottle was empty for some reason.... I didnt know how long they lasted, but zex advertised 3 minuets, i knew it hadnt been that long, but i wasnt sure.

Day5: i went back to finally have my purge switch installed. They didnt have time, they said. And they wanted the old switch back to refund it. So in their parking lot, with their tools i had to put the switch in myself, such bullshit considering i already paid for labor.

a day later My friend and i got the bottle filled and went backt o my house to hook it up, and turned the valve, and mad nitrous was spraying from the engine. We jacked the car up and saw a huge hole in the line.

It turns out that Auto Effex had ran the line right on the half shaft before going up the engine. It had burnt a hole right in the line.

i didnt bother, calling auto effex, i was sick of bitching, and sick of dealing with them. I bougt a line off of my friend who's engine had blown and ran the line, the right way myself.

It took me about 5 days, in a period of 2 weeks. and cost me a combined $400 bucks for installation . I had to install the switch, the purge line, the purge switch, move the bottle to a good location and re-run the line.

SAVE TIME AND MONEY DONT GO TO AUTO EFFEX IN CARLISLE PA.
